Open Championship
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:49:25 AM »

Another thread on here reminded me that I got my first Hundred with one of their bats,Grade 2/3 bought from Alf Gover`s Cricket shop in the Nets on Wandsworth Hill,SW London....got a couple of pairs of Gloves by them too,one Sausage with overlap on bottom hand which I found in my old bedroom at my Mum`s last week, plus an early attempt at Lightweight, split fingers, near on impossible to mould to your Hand shape,I remember...
Anyone use their Bats/Softs ??

One for the Old`uns

When starting out, I remember my dad, my brother and I all had OC cricket whites with the little OC orange logo. Very retro brand alongside Surridge!

Sponsored Gower later in his career. I wonder if they were made by Hunts County, as I once read an interview with the batmaker there that suggested he had made for Gower.

I remember there massive white lids, shocking polystyrene things they were. Popular with England tailenders in the mid to late 90's

In about 1985, Gower had a HCB bat restickered as a GN

the story I heard was that one of the junior players at Leics had a HCB, and Gower really liked it, and had more made

I think there was a link between OC  and Sondico. Gower used Sondico softs early in his career and IIRC, both brands were based near Manchester

didn't Sondico do bats too? I seem to
Remember a friend of Mine having a kashmir version, Clive Lloyd and Graeme fowler were sponsored by them at the time but it didn't seem to last long.

Sondico was actually based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire -very near to Hunts County. I wondered about this too.
