Gray-Nicolls Kaboom Signature DW (David Warner) bat
« on: October 28, 2015, 09:35:31 PM »

firstly, photographs will be added as soon as I can picture the bat in daylight.

have taken delivery of a Gray-Nicolls Kaboom Signature David Warner SH bat.

it was one of the current batch on ebay uk, I had selected bat number 2 of the 5 which were listed.

it was described as 2lb 12oz, in fact it weighs 2lb 10oz on digital scales and indeed has this written on the top of the handle, under the grip. More than happy that it is this weight.

estimate a mid-middle, certainly concaved, high spine, edge size maximum is at least 40mm

would pass for Grade 1 willow as would be expected given its position in the GN range, although cosmetically not the very best. there is an anti-scuff fitted, looks like 10-11 fairly straight grains with some minor blemishes. the rear of the bat is of the same cosmetic quality.

the shoulders are stamped with "Q"(?) and "RA", I don't know what either denote and would be interested to find out. if it is indeed a "Q" it is possibly the year and hopefully RA is a top bat maker!

it was supplied complete with a quality bat cover and very well packaged hence arrived undamaged. as to be expected, its been sitting on a shelf for a while so isn't pristine but no different from what a bat on display in a shop would be like.

overall, very pleased indeed.

photos will be added as previously mentioned and will further update on how it taps up

Looks a nice stick, spine certainly looks high, just look a tad over concaved for a top line bat.

I await the profile pics.

Would love to get one do these at the side of the players edition ones to see the different between what the public get and what Warner is meant to get.

Great shot up the edge, very nice shape if a little concaved. If it was 2.12 as advertised it maybe would've been a little fuller. Really liking the high spine

thank you - good to have a forum to post them on.

the bat taps up well, crisp response off the face, not as mellow as my G-N Powerbow Strauss LE which has been used, obviously the DW has not been knocked in at all yet.

no doubt the shape is the larger edge / high spine / concaved back specification, quite similar to a Kahuna Kahuna of recent years (reminded me of a Players I had in 2012).

in comparison to my Powerbow which is a little heavier, despite the concaving there is still more wood in the middle of the DW. Obviously, could have been even more if the spine was lower, however, it is an exciting shape, the pick up is good and the ball should fly if hit in the sweet spot.

Looks like a really nice stick. I was watching Aus vs NZ test match and DW's bat did have fair amount of concaving. May be he uses 2lb 12oz bat for T20's and the lighter version for longer formats ???

Anyone know what the shoulder stamps mean on these Aussie GN bats? I've got a Q and TA on one of mine.

A couple of my GN bats have a Q stamp on the shoulder not certain but seem to recall it means quality checked or simular after manufacture prior to distribution  the TA is probably the bat maker
My Signature Kaboom is Indian made I can tell from the grip and binding and as the letter on the one P on the One shoulder Batmaker and The number 50 on the other shoulder which i believe is a manufacturing batch number.
