I think there are some folks who will use these bargains as match bats - maybe tailenders or those without the means to afford more expensive willows. The forum sponsors need not worry. I like a bargain and from doing so have provided my lad last winter with a net bat whilst awaiting his custom made - which I then sold on to a team mate this summer (for less than I paid for it) - plus I have provided for free bats to youngsters or those without vast amounts of disposable income who I know were struggling. In my experience gone is the team kit bag with most folks having their own personal kit (another positive for forum sponsors). Would I bat with one of these SD specials? Probably, at my age I am on the way down with the bat having once been an opener. I have always been very specific and particular with my bats and still am. Despite me having retired last game of the season and then suggested I'd play 2nds next year - I am back 'out if retirement' and probably will play 1st XI (61 wickets last year albeit in a strictly amateur league and Div 1 not Prem at that....). As such I have a custom made being fettled for me as I type, but some folks on here need to understand that cricket is a broad church and should be if the game is to survive and prosper, folks from all backgrounds need to be able to afford to play. There is room for all and the subject isn't as binary as some people clearly think it is and all points between the GN Legend and the heavily discounted V100 SportsDirect special should be open for discussion. But it's clearly not all bargain bin stuff on here and neither should it be. But let's not be too supercilious about low end 'bargains', because for some folks it's all they can afford. Yes, there is a risk you'll bag a duffer, but that is part of the gamble I guess. We might all covert the Porsche or Ferrari, but probably drive more modest vehicles. Although either wouldn't be able to get 5 blokes and a load of cricket kit in like my Skoda Superb! Good day all.
