I think you do what's natural for you. The original article with Cowan highlights him moving away from his natural stance. If you have always had a raised bat then carry on. Tap it on the floor is also good if it works for you. There are probably a dozen different elements involved in playing well off the back foot or front foot, stance isn't the only one. I have played with bat up high/tapping the ground and sooner or later I go back to what I do naturally. Start on the floor and lift to waist height just as the bowling starts running in. As has already been pointed out, the bat has to go up some point.

i'll bet there's a few of us that don't know what we do naturally thou....I think I pick up the bat about waist high but not sure. Always handy for someone to video you actually in the nets and then you can see for sure.

Just for a  mess about in the living room(well we've all done it) I picked the bat up with the toe pointing vertical at about shoulder height(the toe) and the bat did feel remarkable light

I wouldn't be comfortable that high myself but that what Ponting said on his masterclass...the bat feels so much lighter the higher you pick up

Because I'm tall and manly, I stand up straight and wave the bat in the air. Crouching in a stance only makes it more difficult to back away and play shots from square leg.

  • Head straight. Stand still and watch the ball

I changed my batting stance this year since I started having 1 to 1 net sessions. I now stand upright with bat held a foot above the stumps. I have started to play the short pitches a lot better and I know see the ball a lot better too

Bat a bit. Bowl a bit. Not too bad at point either!
