I hate my back!
« on: November 09, 2015, 10:36:32 PM »

Went hospital today, had mri scan last month because having problems with my back and sciatica after a fall at work. Scan results weren't pretty so Being sent to see neurosurgery team to discuss another op (had op in 2011). Not the news I was hoping for. Made a great recovery first time round (4 full seasons of rugby + cricket), hoping for another good recovery. Anyone here with experience of multiple back ops?

Never had an operation thankfully but on New Year's Day this year I pinched a nerve on the left side of my spine.  Immediate agony!  Straight down my back and sciatica too!  The pain isn't anywhere near as bad but still there, played through the pain this year primarily as a batsman as it hurts when I bowl!  A few stretches help for sure but really I need to see a physiotherapist about it as it's still ongoing. At one point it was really bad as my left hand kept going numb and tingly, as did my leg! One game it was very sore but I scored a 50!

23 years old...bad back, going grey...what a state!

I hope your meeting goes well mate, makes me thankful I haven't had anything this bad! (yet?)

One of my friends had couple of slip disks and the nerve pinch thing. He got the inversion table and that has helped him a lot. He also changed his lifestyle and  eating habits to ensure he doesn't gain any weight - and this guy is already slim kinda.

I didn't have the disc removed first time I had a dodgy back, which meant the nhs basically washed their hands of me.
I ended up at a chiropractors, after talking a lot of people who'd gone through similar.
One thing I was told by y nhs physio was that cricket is one of the worst sports for backs,( her husband was physio for ecb).
One thing I would say is find a good chiropractor or physio
Keep the weight off
Get to a gym/ keep as fit as you can, yoga , Pilates etc
It's all gonna help you carry on playing

Yeah, my lifestyle probably hasn't helped, 31, 6'5, 19 stone, work involves granite hedging and been playing rugby since I was 11! I know I'm finished with rugby now, so will be looking to lose weight once I can get active. Want to try yoga to improve flexibility, and been told to swim as well. Hoping to play on, i stopped bowling last season and started batting up the order, was hoping to work on batting over the winter, will have to wait till next winter now.
