Hunts custom No. 2
« on: November 13, 2015, 09:45:40 PM »

After the unfortunate breakage of my first custom, Tony managed to get me another belter... only this time better. I'll let the pictures talk...

I went to Hunts at 1:00 to pick up some willow. Tony laid out some low density clefts again and spotted this one. Again, not the prettiest but performs unbelievably well. Also spotted a gorgeous low density, 13 grainer picked out for Darren Maddy and a cheeky paddle, boat oar style bat with Vitas written on the top.

So Tony set to work. My old bat was actually just under 2'9 and this bat picks up as well as my old one despite having a lower middle with a bigger spine.

Similar to a Turbo profile but with the spine running through the toe and some weight left in the shoulders which I really like. It also has a but of an offset edge with the biggest part of the edge slightly lower to make the middle even bigger. As per usual, no concaving and now the middle slightly lower.

Finished with a green toe guard and

-----Warning controversial decision-----

replaced the Insignia stickers with Aura stickers which in my opinion look fantastic. Tony also lettered my name onto the bat and put a scuff sheet on.

Enjoy :)

I can't read the funky text your name is in  :-[

Nice bat though mate, hope it serves you well (and lasts better than the first one)

I'm pretty sure he is playing in the Birmingham League at Berkswell with Dominic Ostler.

Could be an issue with low density clefts? Personally, now I prefer the top third or so of a cricket bat to be non-concave, as I feel that this helps in the stability of this area and will help reduce the chances of breaks like this happening. Unfortunately, willow is a natural product! I hope you're going to get a replacement, but I can't help but feel sorry for Hunts! Will have made a loss from replacing the same bat twice! :-[

Don't thinks its the low density cleft that is the issue. I have had a few before and they have lasted for quite long. The bat had pretty much minimal concaving all the way through. Might just be a bad batch of wood. I will be getting it replaced again or might just get a refund.

I had a custom county made last year and it performed really well and it didn't break. Think you have been very unlucky mine still going strong!

Sorry to hear of this breakage again, the Hunts I have had have gone on for ever.

However, the important question is - WHERE DID YOU GET THAT GRIP - I WANT ONE!!!
