Hello everyone
Just curious about my recent purchase ! I bought this Kookaburra bat and followed the first 2 steps of preparing the bat but not sure about the outcome. Please have a look at the pictures .. is it normal to have such dual colored grains ? Please advise .. thanks

Looks like some sort of stain or watermark, shouldn't have any effect.

Just looked like heartwood with some staining. Quite common and nothing to worry about.

It's very normal to have some reddish grains, heartwood is its name, no problem at all to playability, in fact some players insist on having some on there bat..

Since when has 180 grit been "very fine" lol
As for the bat itself, looks perfectly normal to be, I think the marks you weren't sure about are either water marks or something to do with a butterfly stain being present somewhere in the tree.

I'd be more concerned about those 3 red arrows that can be seen from certain angles (pic 2)...

May be off-track, but does Kashmir willow bats need to be knocked ? I thought kashmir willow bats are generally used only for tennis ball cricket ... Has anyone used it with leather ball ??

Yes Kashmir willow bats can be used for leather ball cricket. However you might not get the feel and punch what an English willow bat can give you. All the best with your new stick.
