Stag-Do impacting on opening day fixture
« on: December 03, 2015, 11:18:34 PM »

We have had a request to move our opening day fixture for next season due to a large portion of the opposition going on a stag do on the friday night we believe.
And have asked can we move the fixture to a Sunday to help them out?

Thoughts Gents.

Note: we played a fixture last season with only 4 first team regulars as the rest were at an ex-players wedding, the thought of moving the fixture didn't cross our mind.

Dunno about your league, but I'm sure the Hampshire League states games are to be played on the Saturday.

If they'd rather go an get boozy than play cricket that's their problem. Why should you (and the rezt of your team) have to rearrange your weekend to suit them? Leave the fixture on the Saturday when it's meant to be played. I bet they'd do the same if the scenario was reversed.

Clubs I've played at have had games moved due to weddings on Saturdays, but never heard of someone trying to move a game because they're getting pissed on the night before! They can play hungover.

Given so much notice like this, I don't see the problem. Why not,  it's decent thing to do, and if you guys had thought of it you'd have given it a shot. Would get a lot of respect for that in my opinion as a club and blokes.

I'm the only person that's voted in favour of it so far

If it doesn't detrimentally impact your side then its a decent thing to do. Allowing the reschedule should get a lot of respect in my book.

Given they have aske so early I don't see why you wouldn't cater for it. Totally different if they waited until the season or close to etc.

Of course, it's good because now your guys can go play somewhere else for that Saturday too and get more cricket in :)

If they are a decent bunch of guys then do it. However, there is the risk that your game gets rained off and the other teams play and you lose the potential points. Conversely, they could be rained off and your game be the only one that gets played.
I have agreed to move 2 games for next season. It should work in our favour though so I'm quite happy.

In the Kent Reginal League clubs frequently move fitures to the week before everyone else at the start of the season, usually its because the ground isnt available but pretty sure there have been instances of weddings and other events

With over 4 months notice there shouldn't be a problem.I'd much prefer this to a team calling it off a few days before whwn that really pi**es you off

I played for Roan and Lambethans last season, they always start a week early to accommodate their August tour - it has been running for 40 odd years mind!

We may have to do that now we've joined a league. We go on tour to Devon on the August Bank Holiday, have been doing so for at least 30 years.

Personally I say it is poor organisation to have a stag do the day before the game.

You should get on with the game on the Saturday as it is unfair on the opposition who might only be free on Saturdays to play due to other commitments.

When do you suggest they do it then? Mid-week? haha

I tend to agree, the cricket season doesn't move.
