Are Mongoose All That ? My Review
« on: December 21, 2009, 10:01:43 PM »

For some time now i had been considering getting a mongoose MMI3 as the concept is something which simply intrigued me. Rather than make comments and express opinions on them i held off until i had something to base my opinions on and i have now had the MMMI3 a few weeks and its taking me sometime to base an opinion on it which is fair and I'm happy with. The concepts a simple one in my opinion not matter how much science they throw at it in my opinion its about more power and more bat speed through the shot.

I'm not going to claim this bat was custom made to my specs as it wasn't it was purchased from another forum member a few weeks back and I've been getting my head around it ever since then. I have seen my thoughts and opinions change a fair bit in the time I've had it which has been my biggest problem ? how can something like this continuously play with my thoughts and opinions but I'm now sorted.

The bat looks superb and is finished very well and looks to be made to a very high standard, i haven't had too many issues with the shorter blade and longer handle yet however I've only had a few hits in a net as yet. I find the balance to be great as is the pick up and again no problems with changing my pick up etc which i have read comments on, it picks up like most other bats and not vastly different at all which is the biggest surprise.

The bat speed which can be achieved is superb and it handles very easily indeed and in my brief knock the performance was also top quality. At this stage i cant comment too much about how easy it is to use as the blade is pretty small against standard bats but so far so good for me. I have read many opinions on Mongoose most from people who don't own one or have ever picked one up so i didn't pay any attention to them. Too many people are quick to knock something before they have tried it and at my age i prefer not to do this.

My opinion is a great concept and i cant wait to go out in the middle with it, not difficult to use and has not changed the way i pick up or stand ? cant wait until i deliver some big blows with it. My view's and opinions are my own honest thoughts of this brand and product and are based on playing around with it for the last few weeks which has been some great fun. Will put pics up later and I'm sure other peoples opinions will differ but i thought id offer a fair opinion.

Its strange how they dont feel drastically different to a normal considering that they are very different!

yeh have to agree saw the very early proptotype of the bat a while bac....devon malcolm had it with in at wormsley for the 20/20 world cup warm up games and as with most things that dare to change the look/appearance of the traditional game of cricket it will have its fair share of critics but its not removing the traditional bat from the game merely offering an alternative to it!

Great review there, very balanced.

To me (as a bowler), it could be the best bat in the world, but if you used that against me in the middle, I would sledge until the cows come home!!!

Oh please, anyone who gives talk on a forum clearly isnt very good.

Ergo you wouldnt sledge them as you would be being whacked around the park!

Yeah you're right, I would be whacked all round the park, I apologise!

Blimey, Ray, its a bit of banter mate... I'm not giving "talk" either, whatever that means!!!

But, as a bowler, it would be your duty to give a bit of stick (nothing personal) and have a joke with someone using a mongoose. You just HAVE to! Come on bowlers, help me out here!!!

Totally agree Leeroy, and as a keeper I would absolutely slaughter anyone who came out using one of these! That's not a dig at the bats, but just can't see a club player gaining much if anything from one of these, just my opinion though.

I can see how for a top pro who's timing is immense that for a 20/20 innings this could just make the difference as it's pretty much hit our or get out, and therefore 3 or 4 overs slogging with one of these could really make the difference... Still I bet most pro keepers and bowlers would be laying into anyone using one!

Looks a quality blade, even If it's shorter than it's competitors!

thanks Jamie, you got my point, it wasnt to say I was better than anyone, just that you would have to have some confidence to  use a mongoose in a normal club game, and you would definitely need to score some runs!
