Jos Buttler
« on: December 07, 2015, 10:46:22 AM »

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/england/12036178/Jos-Buttler-It-was-a-relief-to-get-dropped-I-got-to-a-stage-where-I-was-not-concentrating-and-didnt-want-to-be-there.html

Thoughts on this? No doubt buttler is a certainty and key part of the white ball sides but I wonder if he just isn't cut out for red ball and test cricket. I get where he is coming from with the "relief to be dropped" comments but does make me think he isn't cut out mentally for test cricket (I'm sure his opponents will remind him of it too, he's lucky he won't see an Aussie for a few years!)

Am I being over critical?

Bayliss said as much after he was dropped, he was in a rut and whilst the only way to get out of it(how many of us didn't want to play after a shocking run of form?) is to keep battling away sometimes you need different handling. England did the right thing with him.

the guy is one of the most gifted players ive seen in years. Youre talking KP ability in my view.

England wicketkeeping position is as clear as mud but he will be back in tests.

Gilchrest for the Aussies found a way to play at number 7 or 8 and Buttler im sure has the potential to do the same.

Long term he's the answer.

Have faith!! :)

Billings is a better keeper than Buttler and Bairstow IMO (although admit i am biased) but not as good a batsman. I do wonder if Buttler and Bairstow will play together and swap between the keeping duties for the next few years?

I think Buttler has real talent, and agree he could be KP levels, i just wonder if hes better focusing on the batting and giving up the keeping for England

Prior was miles better with gloves and bat. Butler is a white ball hitter, nothing more. Kp like talent??!?? Hahahaha, clueless I'm afraid. No way Jos butler will reach kp,heights.. Could he score 158 against the best attack seen in 2000's?? I don't think so

Can we please start leaving out the crap. The guy is super talented in 2020 and last 10-15 overs of white ball cricket but he's nothing more than that. Nothing wrong with being a white ball player, why do we bull crap these guys up when they aren't suited in any way for test cricket.

Have to agree. Buttler certainly has talent but comparing him to KP is way off the mark IMO.

totally disagree - Buttler genuinely has KP like talent and has it in him to become an astonishing player in for England in all forms of the game.  Whether he should focus on his batting only is something for him to work out in time.

Billings is the best gloveman of the 3 of them. who knows how good he will become.

Bairstow has done it at county level and also deserves a go and first dig in SA.

It would be a waste of talent if Buttler doesn't make it big at test level in my view.

Aidy - if you watched Bradman bat you would say he was a dirty legside slogger...!! (he was)

Bet he moved his feet or kept his hands close and didn't nick anything remotely swinging or seaming like buttler. The guy has talent and is probably the most exciting white ball player England have seen but that doesn't mean he'll make it in test cricket. Caveat of course that should, test keep moving towards being two odi games in one then sure he's probably suited then but then it's not a test match anymore anyway so incomparable to say teams from 2007 and previous

Josh has got plenty of time to showcase his talent in test cricket so we will see.
