Got hold of this bat the past weekend. Think I will get it repaired, but will it last? Toe area will be vulnerable, but for what it is and the price I paid, might as well.


Thoughts?

Was at the domestic T20 game at the Wanderers between the Lions and the Warriors yesterday and saw this outside the players change room exit. Asked the security guard who it belongs to and he said it was given to him. So I offered to buy it and he agreed!

I'd say it might be worth a little repair project if you've got a completely broken bat somewhere. Cut out a bit of the bat, sand both parts with rough sand paper, glue together, then dowel. Worth a project, you can never tell how long they will last, but the bat itself does look lovely. (From the grains at the back)

Think it was mostly used against the bowling machine. And some pink balls. Scuff sheet is a mess and can see some cracks under, but the grains look great and the response tapping a ball up is wonderful . Was on my way to get a round of beers and ended up with this.

For what you paid for it HELL YES it's worth a repair. As has been said if you have another or can get a cheap bat and make a repair then glue, dowl and wrap in protective tape or the edge tap or even some of the old school whole toe protection tape stuff (awful description) but name of stuff eludes me then it's well worth a go. If not try GM SA for it.

Should you decide to repair my advice would be to cut the broken area into an L shape that way  the piece  of willow you cut to glue and dowel will fit easier and be a stronger repair.

Always worth a go! Not a huge chunk missing so you should be able to tidy it up and replace it without too much hassle, dowel it as others have mentioned and it'll probably even last quite well. Actually I repaired a teammate's bat for him at the start of last season on a similar break and he used it all year without any trouble, so would say definitely doable.
