Inside edging most of the time
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:35:29 PM »

Hey guys,
since last few months I have been inside edging most of the ball while, doesn't matter if its spinners or fast bowlers.

I am a front foot player for spinner and for fast bowler I stay in a neutral position. I bat 4 down and I play only T20, so I end up batting after 10th over or most of the time by 15th so my target is to get the RR skyrocketing. I have been successful at that spot and scored heavily. Off lately I have the above mentioned problem. The pitch is more or less the same where I have been playing nothing major, Its either a fast and bouncy or slow spongy and skidy. But its happening to me all the games no matter the pitch condition..My bats inner edge has been damaged thoroughly.
Help!

I have the  same issue but with outside  edge. Spent some time with a coach and he found the problem to be my shoulders  not moving with the feet and head to be a main contributor towards bat not coming clean.

Do you have the face of your bat slightly open, towards point, in your backlift?

Without seeing you or knowing anything really about your situation, a one size fits most solution is that you are using your bottom hand too much

You paid for all of the bat, might as well use it all ;)

Not really, gap of 2 to 4 inch frm the blade.

Try playing straighter with the full face of the bat Keeping your back leg inside the line of the ball.

Yes  I do

That will probably be the issue. Used to do it myself and my inside edge was peppered with ball marks. If you practice your swing notice your arc. The inside half of the blade will come through slightly ahead of the rest of your bat and will make contact first.

As for inside edging your bat might be coming from leg stump swinging down to off stump in a natural line, which can cause it. I had a problem with outside edging all the time... had a coach look at me for 3 balls to which he say my bottom hand was coming through too hard and my shoulders came square on to the straighter balls, this causing the bat to effectively swing from off stump to leg stump.

not sure if this makes any sense to you, does to me though :)

You have to change your bottom hand grip so that your top hand/elbow comes straight

You can try using a lighter bat, this will help you with your hand & eye co-ordination. As we age we tend to be slower on the ball, try to play the ball as close to your body as possible.

Let us know which solution worked out for you. It will be a learning curve for all of us here. All the best for your future games.

Could be a lot of things! As Jake at Vitas said, without seeing it'd be hard to tell.

Few things:

1. Hands could be too far forward on back lift
2. Bat could be too heavy
3. Trying to hit the ball too hard, so losing all shape
4. Playing away from your body instead of getting in behind the ball
5... the list really is endless!

Sounds like it's the bat.. You need a crown g1++++++++ pro issue low density, lots of grains with pingtastic ping to sort your issue.. Its the only way
