Early xmas present - to me, from me
« on: December 21, 2015, 01:23:39 PM »

Quote
'Twas the week before Christmas,
And into the house,
I had to sneak in my bargain,
Sold as 2 pound and 8 ounce

In short I was on eBay the other day and saw a refurbished B3 listed for not very much money.
It's an ugly bit of willow and the stickers appear to be a DIY "minimalist look"
I contacted Dave, who kindly confirmed the bat was genuine. I was the only one to bid and got the bat for less than £40 posted.

I'm at work right now, so proper pictures to follow.

eBay listing here for anyone who want to see it before I post my own pictures

I split up with her a few weeks back...

The bat definitely falls into the "needs a fibreglass scuff sheet" category though...

@WalkingWicket37 was heard to say "it's that ugly I wouldn't even knock it in with YOUR mallet"  :D

The ugly ones perform better as they try harder to please. In any case you are not looking at the face when you are thrusting into the gap.

Well muggins here got overexcited and removed the scuff sheet without taking pictures  :-[

There is a slight crack that has been repaired and a bit of feathering that B3 have also sealed. You will notice some sellotape, some helmet lifted a bit of willow when removing the scuff sheet which I am sticking back down.

The swell of the bat low down, making it good for a front foot player. It was listed on eBay as 2lb8, without 37mm edges. I have not weigjt or measured to confirm this, but there is a fair bit of concqving (as you'd expect for a big edgez,  low weight bat). If I had to guess the weight on pickup alone I would have said "about 2lb10" (make what you will of that)

I haven't done a ping test yet, and my plans for tonight are to give the bat a fine sand all over and apply a fibreglass scuff sheet.

Lifted willow sorted.
Stickers (and residue) removed
New stickers and fibreglass scuff applied
1 and a half grips applied

Now for the numbers.
Edges at thickest point: 38mm
Edges at the toe: 22mm
Edges at the shoulder: 17mm
Spine height: 63mm

And a few pictures as it is now.

At just under 2lb10 and all the meat in the bottom of the bat, this feels it's weight. Overall I'm happy with the purchase  :)

That was my last SS/TON fibreglass sheet which was perfect for this due to being that length so fitted perfectly.
I have got some GN ones from Jake that are about 60cm (or two bats worth if you cut them in half) that I think are the best quality wise

Nice one Cam. I love the way you used those stickers to distract attention from the less attractive willow 😉

No idea what you're on about, Al.  ;)

I wanted a cheap bat to apply the stickers to, so whatever I'd bought would have had a fibre sheet and those stickers applied (maybe...)

I used this against a bowla today.
Not convinced the sticks will stay as they're keep lifting while the bat is in my bag, but i'm impressed.

The bat makes a deep sound, but the ball flies out the middle and it is perfect for driving. Any front foot players who don't mind a heavier pickup and bit of concaving I can highly the 1871 shape from B3
