Masuri Stemguard Moving Around and Making Noises Whilst Batting
« on: December 22, 2015, 07:16:38 PM »

Hi Guys,

I've bought a stemguard recently and was slightly disappointed to find that there wasn't a connector small enough for the Small Men's Helmet. This has led to the stemguard moving around and clunking  when running and batting. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if any of the retailers on here know of a solution.

I have thought about taping the connector to make it smaller but then realised this would, after a while compromise the effectiveness of the connector and helmet. Taping the clips down is also not recommended on the back of the box. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

Thanks in advance,

Cut the conector and do a tape up job so it's the right size?
Or replace the conector with a bit of string or a cable tie?

That said I have a standard size helmet and the shortest connector doesn't sit flush against the rim of the helmet

Thanks,

I'll try the cable tie method, but I'm not so bothered about the looks of it sitting against the rim of the helmet more the fact of it moving and rattling!

Cheers

Can i ask, is there any real reason to buy this unless you're getting bouncers at head height at 80mph?

It's more for knowing that your safe which I feel has given me more confidence to play adventurous shots and the confidence to play the hook. I guess it's highly unlikely I'll ever be hit there but on the off chance I do get hit it will be £45 well spent!

Keep your eye on the ball ;) not literally that would hurt. I think the only adventurous shot you might have to worry about is maxwells behind the back shot.

Dodgy pitches. Beamers. Hitting the ball into yourself playing unusual shots. Or the one I've seen happen personally; a poorly aimed fielders throw when trying to run you out.

Thankfully I only got concussed. But while not wearing a helmet I managed to toe one into the ground and it bounced up and hit me on the back of the head. Stem guard may have saved me concussion.

But a Beamer is what your more likely to go oh crap and turn/duck to than a bouncer.

Wow thats some hard wicket! The only stupid thing ive seen anything hit them selves was a friend trying to do a ramp shot whilst he was on about 130 and he fractured his check bone... Was funny watching from the other end though!

Would people like it to marry into the Shell of the helmet so that it's more integrated?

Personally I'd like it to fit flush with the shell, I imagine this is what masuri originally intended though due to the inserts on the inside rim of the vision series, it looks to coincidental for there to be that many spaces all the same however I imagine this was altered during the design process. This is why personally I prefer the shrey neck guard over the stem guard as it can be folded to be fitted much more flush to the lid

I think people will be believing the stem-guards/neck guards/nek-tek are merely a short term quick fix, and the next set off new helmet will have them built in, weather an extended back section, or foam/padding that comes down to cover that area from within.

If you was designing a helmet to protect these areas from the off, I can't see how an extra bit that clips on would even be considered.

Shrey neck guard fits these helmets! recommend trying one

Having spent £50 on a Masuri stem guard already I can't see how spending more money on a product designed for a different helmet will help. Happy to be proved wrong but it seems crazy a competitors product would work better than the original...
