Are Pakistan becoming a laughing stock?
« on: December 29, 2015, 10:16:55 AM »

This whole Amir issue hasn't been handled well by the PCB nor the players. I mean they made an inexperienced "international" player captain and now he's causing issues over Amir being part of the squad!

http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/story/956213.html

Amir has done his time, was lead on by a former captain and has acknowledged his mistake.

Shouldn't the new captain be putting his arm around the younger players and supporting them?

He should be nowhere near a professional cricket game let alone the international scene

Why shouldn't he be given a second chance? A young naive lad was taken advantage of. He's paid for the mistake

Harsh... For me he has paid his dues and therefore because of his age (plus little life experience and lead by others) should be allowed to play. I also think it's harsh to punish someone for the rest of their lives when I am pretty sure a few have gotten away with similar offences .

What is "laughing stock" about this? Talk about unnecessary sensationalism!

I'd call them a laughing stock. There wouldn't be issues of players refusing to turn up for camps, captain handing in a resignation request etc if this was handled correctly from the start.

This is just one of this issues. Another would be the whole Younis Khan fiasco

No more of a laughing stick than our (ECB) recent years IMO.

It's always someone else's fault.

Nope..never anyone else's fault. But gross generalization / stereotyping deserves serious trolling

Tad surprised to see people saying "Pakistan is becoming a laughing stock" considering this was a good move. As I had stated in a topic earlier, Mohammad Amir was not as naive as we think. He was well into it and he should have not been playing international cricket. Players have right to express their views. They try there utmost best and play with sheer integrity and pride, but then a convicted criminal comes and walks in the side? How can we be assured that Amir would not do what he did again?

Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez are right on there grounds. It was them who had to face the backlash and restore the image of Pakistan cricket as tainted trio was off scene. Massive respect for Ali and Hafeez, kudos!

@Cover_Drive Wouldn't you agree that all of this could have been handled a lot better? I mean it's not the first time they have been embarrassed (Younis Khan issue). I said becoming a laughing stock as if the PCB don't start ironing things out and ensuring they have covered all bases prior to making decisions, then they will be a laughing stock.

PCB, have overlooked issues and concerns of drafting Amir into the squad and now facing backlash

Everyone deserves a second chance. Amir needs to build his trust and everyone around him needs to support him.
