Net venues in Somerset
« on: January 02, 2016, 07:55:51 PM »

I'm looking to get some early practice in and would appreciate some help with finding an indoor venue in the Somerset area.
Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

I used the county ground last season for a few seconds with a coach. I it was £30 for the hour.

I'm fairly certainly you can hire the net worth a bowling machine to use with it the coach.

Last winter we had some nets at castle school Taunton. If I remember correctly it was something like £20 for the session which was about 1.5 hrs. I think the rate depends on the time of day. We netted at 9pm on Fridays. The club before us never turned up so we could have had longer if we wanted.

Thanks for the replies, our club starts netting at the county ground in Febuary but it's only one season a week for eight weeks, now the new year is here the season doesn't seem so far away and I'm itching to get back into it so I was looking for alternatives.
Unfortunately most at our club don't have the same desire to improve as I'd like them to but there are a few of us that are keen to get started, Castle school could be an option and I have a bowling machine sat in the garage which could be put to use, I will try and contact them in the next week or so.
Thanks again for the help guys.

Hi James, I play for East Huntspiil but live in Burnham so Taunton is only a short trip down the motorway.
I've played against Trull on a couple of occasions but I don't think our paths have crossed.

Hi James, I personally haven't played against Dunster but I'm resonably new to cricket so it's possible you could have played against us before my time or it could have been our neighbours, Huntspill and district (West Huntspill).
If your home ground is anything like the surrounding area I'd imagine it's in a pleasent spot ?.

Perhaps somebody ( I'm shirking responsibility!) could arrange a forum net at Globe if you fancy coming up the M5 to Bristol

Sounds interesting, excuse my ignorance but what and where in Bristol is Globe?

That sounds convenient, other side of the river to the SS GB?.

Yeah very close. It's not bad tbf, just you have to keep the machine pitched up because the bounce short of a length is inconsistent to say the least.

To be honest I'm keen to try any suggestion if we can get a few people interested.
I'm going to be a bit dim and ask about Gloucestershire's facility you mentioned in the other topic, is that in Bristol or Gloucester ?.
