My RK Custom Tempo/Distinction/Warner Light
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:05:31 PM »

I loved my Original H4L Tempo. It was huge, scared little children and animals at 100 yards and had a similar effect on the oppo (until they saw me bat). However, despite sticking with it for 3 years I never really got on with it. The good days it was great but it was always just a touch to heavy, a little toe heavy for me. Matt did some work on it but I never wanted to change it too much. Then one day last season, I lent it to one of our players as he was struggling with a terminal GN. First ball he hit a full toss out of the ground and never looked back. He needed a better bat and had the ability to use the Tempo far better than me. I reluctantly sold it to him and he celebrated by scoring 150 odd in a league game - point proved. Anyway, a revised Tempo profile was on the radar and the whole Warner "light" thing got me thinking again. I decided to entrust one of our finest aspiring batmakers with the task and gave him a stupid requirements list. Here's the end product:-

Specs:-

2'10.7
Spine - 75mm from the face
Edge - 32mm
Toe 30mm in the middle
Shoulder 10mm
SSH
Harrow Length
Hole drilled through blade (like Hunts Revolution)
Slight duckbill at the bottom
High-extended middle
Some gentle concaving, pretty minimal

Dead chuffed with the outcome. Ryan has done a superb job and even the stickers exceeded my expectations (Ryan/Simmy will tell you I wasn't a fan lol). When you see something like this and the Red Ink I recently got from John, you really don't need to be paying silly money for a custom bat.

I always presumed it was just to take a bit of weight out, curious to know if it does affect performance, whether positively or negatively.

I think it's drilled through the handle end of the blade before handling. It's mainly weight saving - maybe an oz or so. Don't think the toe mark has anything to do with it @Ryan ?

If Hunts style, the hole will be drilled down from the V before fitting the handle.

Don't think it has any impact on performance as it's not a big hole amongst a lot of wood.

Hole/mark at toe, will be to mount on the lathe to add the biding.

Cracking lucking bat.

I'd noticed Salix have that also.

Indeed though, cracking bat.

Thanks for the quick post Nick. Glad you're happy with it.

Yes, the small indent is from the lathe when binding the handle.

Its bats like this that dishearten me for needing a 2lb7, this looks a real winner!

No reason why you couldn't get a 2'7 in this profile. Shave 2-3mm off the edges to a respectable 29-30mm and a touch more concaving and I think you could get there.
