i saw it for the first time in yesterday's ODI. here is a picture of him using it earlier this year.. can't figure out the logic!

I am just trying to figure out the logic...conventional wisdom suggests that being closed off is far, far worse than being too open. but clearly this is working for him

One day cricket stance I suppose. Limit on short bowling so he's not going to get bounced... This opens up the whole of the offside and I assume he's challenging the bowler to bowl at him (when in odi's they try not to bowl straight) . Have to say, I only saw him do this a few times when I assumed he was trying to manipulate the field.. He looked pretty ordinary otherwise. I wasn't watching that closely though as it was a bit of a run fest.

He straightens out prior to the ball being delivered now. At the point of delivery he isn't as closed off as when the bowler is running in. Brings the back foot across. As KP says who cares as long as it's working - bit like Smiffy he just keeps on churning out the runs.

I remember during the summer our overseas pro was telling me, how in limited overs cricket to try and rock your momentum from front to back foot and to push your front leg more towards off stump to open up the off side field, as will always try to bowl an offside line due to the consequences of leg side bowling.

Personally think this is the aim of all cricket not just white ball. Who cares what it looks like?

ah, but in theory with the red ball the wickets shouldn't be flat so the ball should do more and for longer.. The red ball should have a bigger seam that again, lasts longer and causes more deviation.. Then it should swing for longer of course 9more movement).. then the wicket should get worse so that by day 5 it's probably holding up.. cutting.. variable bounce

at which point poor technique will (well should be but isn't really currently for various reasons) and should get found out.. Unlike white ball cricket where wickets are flat, ball doesn't really move etc etc
