Travel Agent here who has cricket toured to Malta about 5 times.
Fill a large bag with whatever kit you want to take (e.g three sets of kit) and weigh it, then purchase the corresponding weight for an extra bag and split the cost between all of you, shouldn't be more than a couple of quid per bag each. Repeat this for however many bags you want to take.
I know the guys out there pretty well so they usually let us just borrow their kit.
Be prepared to do lots of running between the wickets as the outfield is horrifically slow and don't wear spikes as they only have an astro strip. Say hello to Maestro for me (you'll know who he is, trust me).
Paceville is a pretty decent night out depending on the time of year, though if you're unlucky it will be full of drunken underage Italian kids. There are a few bars and restaurants on the St Julian's Bay side overlooking the water which are just superb. I suppose you don't have to take your well known brand of thigh pads as there are plenty of places about that advertise them and they are all pretty decent.
I'm sure you'll have a great time, are you playing against Marsa/Malta or another touring side?
