Hello Everyone, a new Bat collector from New Zealand
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:57:25 AM »

G'day everyone,

I am Roey from New Zealand.  I played a little cricket during High School years and Social club after school.  Like many of you, I enjoy batting and especially with a nice bat.  I am more of stroke player.

On a recent trip to India, I picked up a SS Master 9000.  Then a while later, I ended up getting an SG Player's Edition.  I have recently placed an order for a Laver & Wood Private bin!  Here's pics of the SS and SG bat.  I haven't received the L&W yet.

Looking forward to being a part of the forum and learning all about Cricket Bats.

Hi Roey, nice to have you. Once you become a member your bat collection will increase 10 fold in a matter of months. This normal and something not too worry about.

Both bats looks great, the SG looks particularly attractive with it's matured/prominent grains.

Thank you everyone.  The SS Master 9000 got sold a week ago, made a $20 profit.  Enough for a nice Steak dinner and a beer.  I thought of selling the SG but then decided to keep it cos it has a really nice ping and with an extra grip, the pick up improved a lot.  Being a Left handed batsman, the heartwood lies on the outside for me too!

Wish we could get M&H bats here.  Bats are expensive in New Zealand, although NZ weather is very similar to UK, maybe we can grown some willow here.

hello welcome to the forum sunshine, us Middlesex fans have Brendon McCullum over here this summer, one of the best exports from NZ since Martin Crowe(legend)

Funny you wish a certain English(cough) brand was in New Zealand when a lot of the forum love the Laver bats. They are very popular here for sure

Haha, oops! Yeah NZ doesn't have much choice, it would be good to have lots of variety. It will hopefully will bring the price down a bit for the shelf/ big branded bats.  But you can pick up some nice ones on the 2nd hand market, especially as unwanted christmas gifts  :D

Even though Laver is a NZ brand, only 5% of the sales are NZ based customers.  And surprisingly they are actually not that well known here.  I only found out about Laver after reading these forums and searching for bat care tips on the net.  But thanks to this forum, I am awaiting mine.

NZ cricket is doing well these days, even after B. McCullum retired.  Yeah you guys are gonna have a blast watching him play.

Hi Rory,

The lads aren't joking about the addiction we all have. I'm in Adelaide across the ditch. Like your 9000. Had a 2000 and sold it on. The bat collection will grow and shrink as you buy and sell and make no money in the process, just improve your knowledge.

I joined three years ago and now have a small repair and knock in hobby using all the help from fellow members and local bat makers. You can follow my hobby on facebook. I keep a photo album of every bat i have worked on and what i did.

Still have L plates on. I see the page as a record of my bat hobby. Have not changed the url. Starting to get bored with repairs and really do it for fun. Man cave, beer, bat , radio, relax.

Cheers Marc
