Chanderpaul retires from all cricket.
« on: January 23, 2016, 09:24:03 AM »

After a magnificent career West Indies last great batsman has retired. 164 Tests, 30 hundreds, average of 51 and second highest scorer in West Indies history. A true legend.

You could swap Chanderpaul for 3 of that current WI batting order and still have a stronger team with only 9 men. Legend of the game, over the last 10 years he gave a very ordinary WI team a fighting chance of winning some test matches.

Frustrated England on many, many an occasion. Met him at lancs a few times and he was a real gentleman.
He also proved (like Bailey)  that it doesn't matter what stance you have its all about your position when playing the ball.
Hope he stays in cricket some way...

Sad to see he couldn't fulfil his dream of playing test cricket alongside his son

Had a fantastic career playing alongside many greats of WIndies. A legend

He would have been the West Indies leading test run scorer had the board not shafted him...

Sad to see the last decent batsmen from wi retire. World is losing all its top end batsmen (don't count white ball ones, only test stuff counts)

The legend at getting not outs! A red inker!

Horrible how the board mistreated him and kicked him out after only 1 poor tour. Saved West Indies from a lot of embarrassment in his career.

Probably announced his retirement so he can get a gig at that t20 tournament.

Loved watching him bat, remember he always had very used bats and always seemed to be a few seasons old, never seemed to have the new range for that season. Class player and as has been said got a bad deal from WI cricket board, how and why he hasn't been playing in last few years is criminal

I think the nearest is the Cairns family. Lance last played for NZ in season 85/6 and Chris made his debut in 1989.

I think the shortest gap for Englishmen is the Cowdrey family. Colin last played for England in 74/5 and Chris made his debut in 84

Just read his interview on cricinfo.

He didn't want to retire. But West Indies board refused to give him his Boc to player in the use masters unless he announced his retirement.

Very very poor again from the wicb, not a way to treat one of there and test crickets greats

Sad to see him retire, but can't blame the WICB for sticking to the rules, the MCL is a tournament for retired players only according to the ICC!
