Burning bridges......
« on: January 31, 2016, 07:56:47 PM »

Evening chaps,

As you may or may not have seen on here, I have left my old club and off for a new adventure. The issue Im currently having is I was hoping not to burn bridges with my old club just in case things for whatever reason didn't work out right at my new club and I would have somewhere to go back to, but right now it seems the club is doing a few bits in its power to burn those bridges with me.
I.e I don't know whether im just being petty, but the club has given an award to a fella at the club who never pays match fee's but has been given a commitment and loyalty award for coming through all the junior set up, and then playing 25 1st team games, fine but I've been at the club same amount of time, yes I'm unlikely ever to play 25 1st team games due to my job means I can't commit to the EAPL demands, but i've never been rewarded for doing all the junior stuff, turning out every saturday and sunday, organising a team, being head coach of a junior section of the club, captaining a side. Now I don't know whether I should feel as miffed as what I do but,

The other one is no one from the club has really wished me well for my new adventure ahead, and again that has jarred me, as if you've read this far you'll understand I've been at the club many years and kind of feel I deserve a bit better than that, but then again maybe thats assisted in me leaving?

Any thoughts are welcomed, other than that its just a rant!

It seems that your reason for leaving has been well justified! Good decision and move on mate!

Totally agree, sounds like you've put a huge amount of time and effort into the club. It nY be petty jealousy that the other guy has been given the award but sounds like your reasons for leaving are totally justified - most clubs would give their right arm for a member who does that much.

Better off out of there. It's supposed to be fun!

If you feel miffed it's justified bit remind yourself why you do what you do, if it's for an award then no comments otherwise enjoy the satisfaction you get and move on and be the bigger person don't fall for the bait. When you look back you'll be proud of all the work and your conduct. Recognition is important but unfortunately it's like love and cannot be forced even if you deserve. Hope your new club is better

I know why I do what I do, it was to give back to a community. To try and bring on some new cricketers, I took great satisfaction in getting to play with some of the juniors that I coached 3/4 years ago, in 2nd team fixtures this year and see them do well.
I also feel that clubs struggle for volunteers to do stuff, and then when one leaves and a club doesn't show any gratitude towards a volunteer is it any wonder why others dont want to do it?

Dont think ithey are going out of there way to burn bridges with you  because your leaving as they have never previously shown any appreciation for  what you have done when it comes to rewards . Maybe theres a clique within the club When it comes to giving out trophys.Seen this many times good clubman overlooked when it comes to awards players who don't pay or contribute  given awards why because the attitude at a club  when you have been there for a while  can be he will turn out every week and do all the stuff he does  etc  and We need not show any appreciation you get taken for granted  also moving clubs can be a breath of fresh air.
Wouldn't take it to heart that no one as wished you well with your new adventure as that rarely happens  when players leave also it shouldn't be taken that the door has been  shut  by your old club on you returning in fact because of your  previous commitment  once the season starts they would probably grasp the opportunity to have you back

Exactly mate, it's your clubs loss. And I also agree with what Mr. Senior is saying regarding groups.

I have been in cricket administration for almost 10 years now and know how thankless a job it is but then every now and then you get a genuine expression of thank you and it makes your day. Can't remember when I ever won an award as we choose to give them out to deserving players and volunteers instead of ourselves even though some guys on the board work their butts off.

The best feeling you'll get is half way through next season you bump into some of your former club mates and they say "it's not the same without you...you're really missed...why don't you think about coming back next season..."

Sounds like you've made the right choice...go and enjoy your new club.

In your case it makes perfect sense to move. You are doing the right thing ... If your old club wants you back then let them rebuild the burnt bridge and make it up to you. Move on my friend and good luck at your new club.

Awards are bullshit. Wouldn't fuss yourself over them to be honest, it's a thing you can't control. No point in getting worked up about them.

I have to say walking out on your club over an award seems a little petty.

However never paying match fees is a big issue as you are effectively ripping your club off.

Have you repeatedly made it clear that he wasn't paying and has that complaint been acknowledged by the club powers that be? If not, how would anyone know?

Personally I wouldn't be quitting the club for these reasons - but I would be making it clear that everyone needs to pay their match fee and that if they don't pay they don't get picked.

I've left because I've moved house, nothing to do with me not getting an award! I'm just slightly miffed that
