So I've embarked on my first ever bat refurb (without reading enough on it) and I'm into the sanding stage. As I'm going, I'm noticing the wood turning into a pinky brown colour and I'm wondering whether I'd sanded too far? Every bat refurb I see on here the bat is a really attractive white colour and what I'm trying definitely isn't that. Any help would be appreciated guys!

It won't be anything serious as you have to go some to 'sand too far'. Willow gets darker as it ages as To get very old bats (20 years plus) back to white willow is virtually impossible Without totally ruining the original shape and would take hours and hours of sanding (unless you are using a belt sander which I do not recommend). if you are worried about the colour of the willow put a little bit of linseed oil on, you should see it return to a more 'normal' colour. Once your worries are allayed you can continue sanding. Good luck and enjoy.

Agree with James nothing to worry about just a case of willow colour change there's also what's known but very rarely mentioned these days  a willow  colour change  called pinkish sapwood which sometimes  gets confused with  willow heartwood

Thanks for the help everyone. I finished sanding her and it's only in some places, kinda blotchy, but it's looking pretty good considering. Going to go out and grab and grab some very very fine sandpaper (400+) and wait for the stickers and grip to arrive. I'll post some pictures as soon as she is finished.

400 plus grit will give you a nice silky finish but it's not generally available from DIY shops  have to get mine from a speclialist Suppllier.
