Right, firstly I'm not debating if they should or shouldn't, but read a lot of Twitter rants(pont being one but he is there coach) about wright and Kp being England's two premier in form t20 batsmen who should be in England's World Cup squad once picked.

So here is the question. If they was picked? Who would they replace were would they go?

Here's what my side would be.

Hales
Roy
Root
Morgan
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Willey
Rashid
Finn
Topley

If they took Kp and wright I can't see either getting a game

Ali plays instead as he's a bowling option. Morgan is captain, and root is root. Stokes is a main bowler and buttler stumps. No room for Kp I can see in the middle order?

Hales and Roy open. Can I see wright replacing either. Hmmm not really.

So could I fit them in? Probably not without injury. And if there  was injury. Taylor, billings would be in line before the other two.

Maybe take wright as a back up opener is the only option.

Where do others think they could fit in if selected?

Morgan's confirmed today that the door is shut on KP and apparently Morgan's decision. No chance of him being selected after that.

I've tried to do a like for like of each player you have selected for who would possibly come into the side if they were injured.
I've done this based on who is in and around the England squad, the Lions squad and in form.
Luke Wright could get a go at a push but no space for KP.

I also struggled to think of a 4th opening batsman...  :-[
Plenty of keepers and spin options though

Hales
Roy/Wright
Root/Taylor
Morgan/Vince
Stokes
Buttler/Billings/Bairstow
Ali/Dawson/Patel
Willey/Woakes
Rashid/Crane
Finn/Jordan
Topley/Broad

KP is one of the best, if not the best t20 batsman around at the moment. He would bat at three or open. Which would mean no place for either Roy or Root.

But the discussion is irrelevant. He won't be selected.
I would pick Wright in the squad as cover in case Hales Root or Roy breaks a finger.

Treating this purely as the hypothetical question "who are the best fifteen T20 players in England" for a moment...

I reckon there are seven near enough certainties in the starting XI at the moment - Hales to open, Morgan to bat, Buttler to keep, Ali and Stokes as batting all rounders, Rashid as the attacking spinner and Willey as the left arm option.  That leaves you needing a first choice opener, a three bat, an opening bowler and one more seamer for the main side, plus two back up batsmen, one seamer and one spinner.

For most people, those first four gaps might be filled by Roy, Root, Topley and either Finn or Plunkett.  I don't think any of these guys have done much wrong - I'm actually coming around to Roy as he has blended more with Hales at the top of the order.  Assuming the other half of my either/or gets in, we'd be looking at adding two from Bairstow, Vince, Taylor and Billings with the bat and possibly Parry or Tredwell with the ball.

Stepping away from the party line, I'd actually go for:

Roy
Hales
Pietersen
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Ali
Plunkett
Rashid
Willey
Topley

+ Bairstow, Billings, Ansari, Finn

Of most note here is the absence of Root - which my known status as a Yorkshireman par excellence probably makes even more shocking.  Why?  One, he'll break down eventually and if you do not require his offies - which in a side with six bowlers plus Roy you do not - then there is no real point in his being there.  Two, he can't match the tempo the others can set, and I want us to go hard from the off.  We can't match some sides for the brilliance of our batting, but we do bat incredibly deep - Plunkett, Rashid and Ali are decent, even if Willey probably can't carry his domestic hitting over to the international stage, so no need for a pacer.

I disagree that root can't match the tempo. He can when needed but he mainly does his other job.

The linked innings was one of the best I've seen. And if it wasn't for finches innings, would still be raved about today.

I wouldn't even have Wright in the side as I feel he's a very much hit and miss player, but he misses more than he hits (maybe not currently on this form though)

I would also take Vince (top run scorer in the UAE), Billings Topley and Ali as a back up

KP can come in at 3 in place of Root for me, Wright isn't good enough.

Hales
Roy
KP
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Ali
Willey
Rashid
Plunkett
Topley

Squaddies - Root (covers everything batting), Billings (keeper and middle order), Parry (underrated t20 bowler and we'll need a spare spinner), Woakes (good bat at the end of a t20, better skills with the ball than Finn). With a possible wildcard of Tymal Mills for Woakes or Topley on the grounds that a bloke bowling left arm thunderbolts never hurts, wouldnt discount Broad either.

In the real world, Root stays at 3 and it's pretty open for who covers him. Vince/Taylor/Big Samit/Malan/Dawson all presumably in with a shout.

If they take Tymal it would be at huge risk considering he was close to retiring last year!
