2007 attack was a lot different I think.

Anyway, how are we on this- I wanted to talk about the 2nd test! We are beating the number 1 team in the world by miles!!

Whats this crap about Pakistan not bowling sides out? In the recently concluded series vs New Zealand, Pakistan took 50 out of 60 wickets. 5 times bowling out New Zealand.

Asif is already world class, not potential. He has 70 odd wickets @ 23. Aamer and Gul are also potentially world class.

Anderson is 27 and hasn't done too much yet. Onions is also 27 and isn't the most threatening bowler in the world. Broad blows hot and cold.
It isnt c**p, they hardly look potent without Asif/Aamer, Many of those wickets were taken by Kaneria (why he isnt playing atm against Aus i have no idea). All i can say is that england have sa 70-6 on a flattish pitch, proof is in the pudding as they say. Gul has had his day imo, i hope he proves me wrong.

Kaneria is injured but he'll be back for the second Test. The wicket at the MCG is totally different to the one in Durban. MCG is very flat.

Mind you, Pakistan's attack (barring Asif) had never played a Test in Australia prior to this match, so come Sydney they'll be in better shape.
So we come back to Swann, Broad, Onions etc....... all of whom have never played a test match into south africa before, for them to perform and bowl the way they have shows the quality of their character and promise they give to english cricket. Aamer is certainly one for the future. I havent seen much of Asif recently, as far as ive concerned he needs to prove his class again as he has been out for a while for many different reasons.

Just planning my day now- I am going to pop in to GCCC before play starts. I saw they are selling a load of genuine Kook and Puma and adidas bat stickers for $30 each, so might fill up on those and flog a few to you chaps.

I love my bats, but I am no Pete Hosk! Having spent all that money on the trip, I just can't justify a 5th bat (although watch this space, I am sure I wil lbe tempted in GCCC!)

Swann's had decent success against a clueless Windies side. 26 wickets @ 22.15. And is currently having a decent time against S.Africa, who are renown for being pretty poor players of spin.

Against India, on a square turner at Chennai, he was woeful. Also 2 Tests vs India, 8 wickets @ 40 on spinners pitches. Averages 40 vs Australia as well.

I wouldn't rule out Mendis just yet. India got revenge against him. He would still tear most non Asian sides apart.
If swann was woeful against india because he averaged over 40 with the ball then that must mean murali is woeful as well as just last month he averaged over 40 with the ball against the indians on spinners pitches as well. And muralis is one of the greatest of  all time so in my opinion swann did not do tht badly against india last year

However long your out for, you don;t lose your ability.

Secondly, South African conditions are more similar to English conditions. Whereas Asian sides have a tougher task when going to places like Australia, South Africa, Engalnd due to the totally different conditions.

But that is the same for most touring sides such as english bowlers will stuggle more in asian conditions but a pakistani bowler may not struggle as much on indian wickets as there pitches have similarities. It works the same for all touring countries in the way that they will struggle more on wickets there not used too.

Jeet, I really wish I was some sort of moderator on this forum because I would have banned you a long time ago! If you read the topic title... I am not brilliant at geography, but as far i know, England and South Africa are not in Asian, so why the hell have you go on and on about india's spinners and sub continent conditions?

Its so annoying when people like you turn a topic around into a patriotic argument about which country has the best spinner. Talk about England or South Africa, and if you want to discuss Indian v English Spinners, create a new topic and lets talk about a brilliant test match! :) GO ON SWANNY!

Rant over ;)

Craig, if your having period pains or whatever other issues you're stuffing from I'd suggest seeing a doctor.

Stuffing? I dont 'stuffer' from anything, but I do have a dislike for people who think that they are always right about everything. Like I said, check the titles topic and you have your answer about what we should be talking about.

If you have time, can you please give me an email with your address and I will send you a globe so you can see that england and south africa have no relation to india, and I will also send you some information about puberty, what it is, and how the indian spinners coped when they went through it! :)

Jeet, I dont want to jump on a band wagon, But you need to be reply in a mature fashion, You have come into this topic slating swann, Yet he probably is up there in the top 3 spinners for this past calender year in terms of wickets,

You reply about period pains and telling pete to grow some balls, I can guarantee, That pete and myself are older than you. So your comment, Does not actually make sense.

I'm Indian I don't see any Indians on that list, sorry at the moment Swann is better.. It ain't like Harbhajan is lighting the world on fire with his bowling to say that Swann isn't as good or better..

IMO - Vettori is best spinner currently playing.. but thats a separate topic.
