Legend Softs 2016
« on: February 26, 2016, 07:16:32 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has any of the new Legend softs at all and your opinions on them ? Pictures as well would be a great help IJC haven't reviewed them this year and last years ones looked amazing and felt good so I'd expect nothing less. As my newbery ones only last a season. So looking for something that would wear a little longer.
Thanks
Sam

They aren't any different to last years ones.

Are they still the best softs on the market (your opinion) ? i prefer the understated look the whiter the better ! I always regarded salix and newbery as the best softs but have been let down by both. Newbery protection and look was good but the stitching came out on one pad after 7ish games and the other pad I dived on hard ground and it tore a lot of leather off and gradually pieces Keep dropping out. Gloves by newbery have been very good.

I have a set of legends gloves. Not that impressed.

Prefer my Warner kabooms and oblivion test over them. Even my cheap ass powerbow 700 feel comfier gripping the bat.

For the money of legends, I expected a lot more.

If you're after a pair of pain white page then the H4L customs looks the business this year, and are even more understated with even the branding being white.

Honourable mention to Phantom who copied have an almost identical design.

H4L, B&S, Salix, Focus, all offer high quality plain gear. if you ignore the tiny trim details on the glove and the lining of the pad, the New Balance TC range is pretty plain too

The legend pad is still the best pad in my opinion and I have worn it for 4 years now. The glove I never really bonded with and sold mine on a couple of years ago. It's perhaps pushing it a bit this year at around £80 for the glove too. I would be tempted perhaps to look towards the prestige range personally.

Thanks for the opinions guys!! I'm not to fussy about either sausage or split I find I get on with both well. Just prefer not to have eye popping hear rather not hear the sledging I already cop enough 😂 Only thing i am picky about is having same brand pads and gloves. So who in your opinion does he best pad, split and sausage option ? I understand I may have to compromise on the sausage not being the same quality.

Worried about sledging if you use eye popping gear?
If they have to start sledging you for your gear then you're clearly doing something right!

I've never understood people who worry about getting sledged. I personally like it as I feel if they have to resort to it I'm 1 up already. I've never not bough kit in case people said nasty things either, as a fatty who was fully adorned in pink neon gear a couple of seasons ago I can tell you that hardly anyone says anything anyway!

So my advice, in short - man up and get the brightest most in your face gloves and softs money can buy!  ;)

Sledging is a cracking part of the game. Ive been everything from Robocop (aero p1s!) to Henry VIII and everything in between. Luckily for the opposition im distinctly village!

Pick the gear you like, its as simple as that.

It's not just sledging from the other team its sledging/banter from my own team that worries me more we tend to play a lot of pranks for instance bats taped to roof, clothes put in freezer, Aussie use to play in multicoloured spiked trainers and yellow helmet so they coloured in his helmet in different coloured blocks to match his spikes so I'd rather not add fuel to fire. I always find sledging from the opposition only helps though gives that added concentration side to batting. I think though back on topic I'm stuck between h4l pro pads and gloves also a pair of sausages or gray Nicolls legend pads and gloves with prestige gloves. Unless anyone else can think of a brand in mind with my specs ?

In my opinion Focus Cricket offer one of the best as far as protection and value for money options if your looking for a minimalist pad and glove.

Legend pads are insanely good. I used to have the Morant "lightest pads in the world", but the knee coverage was not the best for me (being 5 9.5, I was in between the sizes offered). Switched to legends, got the extra protection, and didn't notice the extra weight. They are some of the lightest "traditional protection" pads out there, and SO comfortable.

If I had team mates that thought it was funny to damage and vandalise kit for a joke. There'd e a few options
.

Number 1 would land me in jail.

Number 2 would see me move clubs.

But if the above isn't a choice. Then spending big big money on legends gear to find out some had coloured them in or made a sock puppet wouldn't be an option.

Buy the cheapest of cheapest gear so you don't care when your ass hat's off team mate mess about with it.

I'm all for a bit of dressing room banter and a few pranks, but deliberately vandalising or damaging kit just isn't on.

There's a joke and then there's doing something like that, which simply isn't funny.
If that happened to me and I found out who'd done it, morals are gone and it's fair game. Their kit may mysteriously end up in a shower or on a roof (if I was calm about it!)

Don't mind a bit of deep heat in the jock strap but touch my bats or pads or gloves and there will be carnage hobbit or not....

Cut my clothes up all you like I don't spend much on them
