Kookaburra Kahuna Players Cricket bat
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:28:22 AM »

Hi All,

I bought a Kookaburra kahuna players cricket bat from India and sent to VKS for knocking service. all was ok until yesterday for 2nd time I played on the Nets. the bat has developed a crack. Please see the photos bellow--

Please advice if this is normal ? or I should send the bat back to the supplier ?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers,

Looks like a fairly innocuous superficial crack to me and nothing to worry about. Guessing it should sand out fairly easily if you're that worried about it.

I've had a couple of Kooks with far worse face cracks and it's not affected performance but I guess on a Players grade you'd want to be sure.

Looks like it could be potential delimitation, however could just be a simple cracked along the grain. Others may know more.

Thank you for your reply. yes, I wanted to be very sure as this has cost me 350GBP. the bat is brilliant. it sends the ball extra mile. is there any other way to make it sure if it could be potential delimitation ?

Kind regards,

An Indian market Kooka surely couldn't cost that?

Looks like a minor surface crack along the grain, I would advise putting some super glue in the thin crack this will prevent it from opening up further give a light sand, you can give a thin coat of oil and a little more knocking in and your good to go. As for the price these bats are made in India and top end bats in India are starting to demand these kind of prices. So it is not only the UK market that is seeing these big increases.

This is the best available grade in India. My friend has picked this up from kookaburra factory in India.

The crack is running a long the grain, so I would not worry. I would personally put some super glue in the crack to prevent it from opening further give a light sand, then a thin coat of oil, knock in a little more then add a new scuff sheet. The bat will be good to go.

This lasted the great man many years without worry about cracks or delamanation
