Help finding a new cricket team in London
« on: March 08, 2016, 03:43:17 PM »

Im after a bit of guidance.

Moved to London recently and feel like having a crack at this stupid game again.

I live in Whitechapel, east London, and am happy to travel for up to an hour to a club - though the nearer the better.

What are the leagues like in London and surrounding areas, i'm hoping to play at a reasonable standard but with people who don't take it too seriously.

Wanstead and Woodford Wells are both really nice grounds - worth having a look at Hornchurch just for the teas!

I live quite close to you - Bethnal Green - and I play in north London. There are quite a few clubs up there - Alexandra Park CC (my club), North London CC, Highgate CC, Crouch End CC and North Middlesex CC. All of them within an hour's tube/bus and all have lovely grounds and at least 4 saturday sides.

If you want to play locally, there's London Fields CC which you could walk to. Not sure of the standard but it's right in the heart of Hackney, the ground's overlooked by a pub and you get a load of people watching the game.

Further East, you've got Woodford, Leyton, Walthamstow and Chingford.

Spoilt for choice really!!

You're always welcome to join us at Walthamstow.

4 league teams in SNEL (Essex League) 1s in Div 3 and should be pushing for promotion. Fair number of us always up for a laugh and enjoy the game. We got Brand new outdoor nets last season so facilities for practice are up there with the best. Also have Tennis and Squash should you be in to any of those sports.

Have a look at our website http://walthamstowcc.hitscricket.com/default.aspx PM me any questions you have.
If you don't fancy us, feel free to message me and sound out other clubs in Essex league.

London fields is a great fixture, we played on a Sunday on a boiling hot day, easily a hundred people on the side. None watching mind you except 4 drunk old West Indian blokes who abused my annual turning over of the arm (I'm a keeper) from the first ball to the last of my spell  :D

Played a matchplay game about 10 years ago at Hornchurch, teas stick in the memory heavily!!!
