Anti Scuff sheet
« on: March 12, 2016, 07:47:34 PM »

Once again chaps, so sorry for starting another thread about this, but I just wanted current up to date opinions on the anti-scuff sheet. Yes I've heard about the whole it will protect your bat and prolong it and I've read all the debates about clear vs fibre scuff sheets etc, but my main concern is regarding performance. Ideally, I do still want to see the grains of the bat and an anti-scuff sheet which is near to invisible, but ideally I want an anti-scuff sheet which would not take anything away from performance or the feel of a leather hitting willow. Any anti-Scuff sheets to avoid or recommend? If I have to I will not add anti-scuff sheet if it means any performance is compromised, but wouldn't mind adding one if it means I can prolong the life of my new warbird without taking away the ping of the bat.

I use the 'off the roll' from Vitas. It is very good, and works out inexpensive, £11 for 2 metres.  Avoid anything from eBay.

you mind explaining what you mean by "good"? is it light, near to invisibly clear, and doesn't affect the performance of your bat?

Only the forum could offer such debate, does a sheet that 0.2mm thick effect the fact that I may hit a 6 or not?

Scuff sheets will protect your bats face and most possibly prolong its life due to preventing damage to the face/edges of the bat.

Scuff sheets are so thin they will not noticeably effect the performance of your bat!

I use the helicopter stuff that Jake sells, it's clear so you can still see the face of the bat and durable.

Avoid Kookaburra ones like the plague! They disintegrate on impact with the ball and leave a horrible residue. Also avoid eBay fibreglass ones. If they seem dirt cheap it's probably because they're crap!

It's clear, sticks very well, supple. I don't think it, or any other scuff sheet for that matter, has any effect on the bats performance.

I also use the clear ones from Jake, I don't feel they affect performance (certainly not the way I bat) and they do seem to protect the willow.

I got 6m off Jake @Vitas Cricket, have applied it to 14 bats and probably have enough for another 8-10. Clear, Easy to Cut, Easy to apply. Won't affect performance, will prolong life of the Willow.

Would be worth just getting 2m and use it when you need to (or charge your club members), it is the best I have purchased compared to Amazon and Ebay.

So what is the problem with these cheap eBay anti scuff sheets? They affect performance? Difficult to apply/remove? Also does anyone know whether these sheet affects the sound you hear of a cricket bat? Would hate to have spent so much money on a H4L only for a dull sound of the bat due to a scuff.

They crack split hard to remove as they can be made up of layers which peel off leaving the glue residue all over the bat. The good quality scuff sheets do not suffer from any of these issues and are much easier to remove, leaving very little if any residue on the blade.

I imagine that's an attempt at sarcasm.

There has to be a reason why the pros don't put these sheets on their bats

Because they dont pay for their own bats? Because they get as many bats a season as they wish?

90% of pro's do use them, it's mainly dinosaurs from different era's that refuse to use them then whinge about their bats cracking.

On what basis are you saying pros don't use them?  Every pic I have seen of a pro in action has a sheet on.
