HENZ Cricket neck guard
« on: March 17, 2016, 10:16:52 AM »

I was browsing through some helmets when I came across this pretty unique neck guard. A plastic design that takes up a lot more real estate than the 'traditional' neck guards, that I think would bring about quite a bit of chatter from the opposition. Seems a bit overkill to me, but it hasn't actually passed any regulations aside from their own self done ones, claiming it can take numerous 150 km/hr deliveries. Thought it was interesting enough to share.

Surely that won't fit the majority of new helmets as very few have removable grills now?

I thought the same thing, but their sale pitch seems to be 'why buy a new helmet, when you can buy this thing instead'. But at $60 AUD I think I would prefer to do the exact opposite.

There is NO safety standard concerning the Neck area to adhere too or pass, buying this wouldn't mean it passes the new BS 7928:2013 standard as the new standard introduced a test regarding the ball penetration at the peak and grille area....which this clearly isn't applicable too.

What new standard lids have a removable grille to attach this to?
I know the GM one does, but are there any others?

It seems daft adding this to a non compliant helmet (or a compliant one) as it looks incredibly flimsy anyway, so I can't imagine you'd really be making it any safer to be honest.

Ours does, having finally got our formal certificate of compliance yesterday for the 1st model it should be on the ECB list shortly with others to follow :)

Of course IMO i think you'd be better off buying a Nek-Tek to fit to any of the helmets as a tried and tested level of protection in the Foxy thigh pads.

I'd rather go with what John Mooney (Irish cricketer) had designed during 2015 World Cup.
