MKK
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:00:38 PM »

My club's gone for MKK gear this year, need to get mine ordered. Do any other forumites use them or have used them and can advise on the sizing? We used Canterbury last year and I got bitten with the playing shirt coming up much smaller than their advertised sizes so keen to check first this time.

Have used MKK for a few seasons. Great kit.  I found after years of Asian made kits, the MKK kit was a bit larger. Having had XL shirts for years, I had to use a L shirt from MKK

My old club used MKK for their kit provider for a couple of season whilst the clothes were fairly decent and fitted quite well they were a nightmare delivery wise. Quite often the kit would arrive 3/4 of the way into the season and getting contact with them was very difficult. My new club is using Surridge kit customised by Kalibazar which consists of the club badge and sponsors being applied as well as the option of adding player initials under the badge. Even though the MKK kit is a more tapered fit (which I like especially on the arms) I actually prefer the Surridge kit as there are more options in what kit you can buy (on my clubs online store there are 2 different training shirts, 2 polo shirt designs as well as a few different 3/4 zip performance top designs too).

Having a quick read of twitter a lot of people owed money and waiting on kit, and unaware of its demise.

I hope no clubs are coming into the 2017 season unaware of this and hoping new kit option will be there.

MKK is owned by Splice Investments Limited which has a registered office in Lewes. Splice Investments Limited, in turn, owns Newbery Cricket which is based at Sussex CCC's home in Hove.

Angry customers have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure at the company, claiming they have ordered kit but not had it delivered.

Andrew Miller, MD at Newbery Cricket, initially denied to The Argus any links between MKK and Newbery.

He said: "We use them as a supplier and we are a creditor owed money as well. There is no involvement other than from a suppliers point of view."

But on the MKK website it says: "Newbery and MKK are one company."

And on Mr Miller's own LinkedIn profile, he wrote: "Newbery Cricket and MKK are newly merged."

The Argus also referred him to an online jobs advert where Newbery are advertising for retail staff. It describes the company seeking applicants as "Newbery Cricket/MKK Sport" and anyone interested is asked to email Mr Miller.

When we went back to Miller, he refused to comment further.

MKK has gone into liquidation , Newbery is denying any links with MKK ;)
I remember last year all the invoices coming from Newbery had MKK logo on them

Just did some more reading on this.

MKK went bust in early December owing around £600,000 in cash to creditors, majority of that was owed to its inter-company John Newbery Ltd. Some was also owed to industry stalwarts.

John Newbery Ltd had some shares issued (investment/rescue package?) on the 30 November 2016; around the date MKK went into Administration.

Splice Investments previously owned 100% of John Newbery Ltd. Now the business is mainly owned by TEMK INVESTMENTS and HUNTRESS INVESTMENTS (Guernsey based companies) with Splice retaining only a 10% stake.

Reads to me like Splice Investments got themselves into some financial difficulty, and cut loose MKK - perhaps to save Newbery.

When I ordered Newbery stickers, the invoice came with MkK on it and when I needed to contact them as the stickers delivered were wrong and bent, I couldn't get through to Newbery so phone Mkk as there contact was also on the sheet and they answered the phone as "Hi, It's MKK and Newbery, how can we help"

MKK answered the phone?! They certainly weren't doing that preseason last year when everyone was wondering where their kit was. Maybe financial difficulties partly explain why the service was so bad.
