Be blunt - it works.

I am an advocate of the Buzz 'lean in to it' method, instead of the trigger movement. It feels more natural, and there are less movements to think about.

If you can't adapt to that, buy another bat - it will make you better.

Lad at our club has a massive trigger similar to yours.

I bowled a few yards behind the stumps on wed to see what he did, he stood and watched it hit the stumps then threw a tantrum that he didn't have chance to use his trigger.

Why no one has yet tried that to steve smith is beyond me.

Probably one of the best example's i've read against not using one, friend did this a few time at nets last thursday, threw me completely! That's it...trigger gone.

Ditching the trigger and standing still aligned better will transform your batting.

And no you don't need a trigger that is all in your head.
You will get hurt against quick bowling with the position you are in at the moment.
.sorry to be blunt.

@Buzz is spot on. my game has improved leaps and bounds by just focusing on a still head.
one other point mate...even when pros DO the trigger, they move very ATHLETICALLY, whereas your trigger here is very clunky, and you kinda plonk both feet down, as opposed to GLIDING them back and forth and staying in a "ready" position.

I had a trigger coached into me to the point standing still just feels unnatural.
Is it easy to get out of the habit or am I stuck with a dodgy half step across forever more?

I've always been flat footed, even in my younger days... It whittles down to being far to lazy for my own good!

I'm not sure if I can really speak having only just come back into playing after so long, but despite some advice trying last week to use a trigger I couldn't help but find it uncomfortable and just feel odd. Much prefer just being static, although I still can't hit anything, hah.

I've seen a lot of people who are used to a trigger movement struggle trying to stay still because they stand flat-footed and then can't move. Instead of the trigger, try moving up onto the balls of your feet at the moment you would trigger - you stay nice and still that way and you're in a good position to move forward or back because you're on your toes rather than planted. Tip passed on by a coach at uni a few years ago and it's worked well for me and others, I've toyed with triggers at various points but tend to pick the ball up better when I'm still.

You just don't trigger... It is easy enough to stop doing.

In the mean time for those looking who have a similar issue - take a look at this video

Buzz,

Honestly, I can not thank you enough for the time you've spent watching my god awful batting! Now you point certain things out, even though i thought i was reasonable at said things, such as, legside shots and what have you... turns out my technique for these type of shots are poor and i've just been lucky to only been given out (I think) twice LBW last year!

More time in front of the bowling machine I think! hopefully within a couple of sessions i would have settled into a new groove!

Again, thanks for all your help. Hopefully next time isn't such an eye sore!

Thanks for the link Buzzby

I now have a strange feeling I want to buy a Kookaburra...
If it ever stops raining and I can find someone to drop balls for me I'll give this a go.

Also thanks for the weight onto the ball of my feet tip @edge, that's something I can practice indoors. I'll have to get all my kit on to practice this effectively though... All the gear in front of the mirror  ;)
