Robertsbridge made GN
« on: April 02, 2016, 05:15:43 PM »

I wonder whether anyone can help. I have had a GN bought in the UK, though I am sure it was Indian made, and have also bought Australian made GN. I would very much like to get my hands on a bat, hand made in the Robertsbridge workshop, in order to complete the set and purely for a point of interest see how they all differ.

I find it difficult to find clear information as to which models are made in which locations.

Does anyone have definitive information as to which models can be bought, that are made in the Robertsbridge workshop in full.

No such info exists. Bats for the UK market are made in India and the U.K. This is heavily weighted towards India, and it's no specific model or grade that is UK made. We have some lower grade bats that I believe to be UK made, as well as a few LE. My own bats (Lucky 7 and Vortex LE) I believe to be UK made but I did not ask for them specifically, just picked them from stock.

We can arrange for you to have a bat made to your spec (from a limited list of options) at Robertsbridge

We can also arrange for you to visit and have the bat made in front of you but this is not cheap, best part of £1000.

Many thanks to you both. Jake, I have just sent you a pm in order to get further details. I have to say I think it would be better for the distinctions to be clearer.

GN would say it doesn't matter where the bat is made as they are happy with the skill of the craftsman, the level of quality control etc regardless of the location of the factory. They own and run their own factory in India rather than contracting another brand to make the bats like some.

I'll reply to your pm now :)

Just to put my oar in. I've a Chris King made Dynadrive made in Robertsbridge sourced through Vitas. It's really rather good! One of the best I've had in fact!

Although as we know the bats apart from pros  custom mades and proto types are made in India the final quality control checks I believe are made at Robertsbridge.

Many thanks to you all for your thoughts and advice. More particularly thankyou to Jake at Vitas, he kindly supplied me with a low grade f18 made in the Robertsbridge workshop. An amazing bat for the price. Definitely a good sign for the custom bat I will be getting through Jake from GN UK later in the summer.

Jake was a pleasure to deal with and I have to say without hesitation my best experience of buying from a cricket shop. I have enjoyed buying from batmakers in the past, but other than Meulemans in Perth have found buying from cricket shops a hollow experience. By contrast I found Jake thorough, interested, responsive, knowledgeable both in a practical sense from his playing cricket and in a technical knowledge of his products, and enthusiastic. Definitely I would recommend him highly to all.

The only other thing is, I think it sad that GN don't make more of their Robertsbridge heritage and abilities. By contrast to Australia GN, which is proud of its bat maker and the bats it makes, make some unique and incredible quality bats, in the UK I would think it would be great to have a range of bats its makes by hand in the Robertsbridge workshop, and make the most of their clearly talented batmaker. Anyhow only one mans thoughts.
