  • Love a legside stumping.

I don't think I've seen a worse captaincy display since I played U-15 cricket at school. We made 208 against a side who lacked half their first team bats. We then proceeded to bowl so bloody defensively that they just milked the runs and then put fielders in places that were unbelievably unnecessary. Keeper dropped two catches and missed two stumpings, doesn't train in the week and I still get overlooked - such a joke. Far too close to relegation now, need to win the last two games which looks highly unlikely, but anything can happen I suppose.

crap day today - fielded badly as a team they had two batsman that could bat - but they kept chipping the bloody ball into the gaps just over our heads etc etc ... not enjoyable to watch or field to. then batted at three and got given out caught behind straight off my shoulder to a short pitched slow ish bouncer - i was unimpressed and to cap it all off we lost.

Played top of the table away this afternoon on their postage stamp of a ground and arrived to find out we only had 9 players. Anyhow we won toss, put the opposition in and one of our opening bowlers got what I thought was their main man out. I then came on and got their other opener out in my first over but then fielding a ball I pulled my left calf muscle simply doing something as innocuous as picking up a ball. This rendered me almost immobile but I continued bowling with no run up whatsoever and was relatively economical with figures of 7-0-31-1, However the opposition still managed to rack up 200-4 before declaring after 34 overs with their No.3 posting a century.

In reply, we quickly lost 2 wickets courtesy of couple of almost identical long hops being hit to the same fielder. The bowler is the division's leading wicket taker and I'm not surprised when you get luck like that!!! Anyhow wickets continued to fall fairly rapidly that I soon found myself batting with still well over 20 overs to go. Knowing there was rain in the air (we had an early tea because of a shower) and that I couldn't run, I just batted intent on occupation rather than scoring and was quite enjoying myself. Initially my batting partner was doing OK but disappointingly lost patience and was caught. Final batsman joined me and enjoyed very brief success with a boundary but he didn't last more than couple of balls after that and we had lost the match.

Frustratingly the rain arrived before we had even finished shaking hands which probably would have meant us getting 1 point as the forecast suggests it's still raining in Leeds now. Still can't really complain as once again match played in an excellent spirit and I treated my innings like a net, mainly focusing on perfecting the leave.

Disapointing day for us, we batted first and posted a very below par 180, most certainly 40 runs short but they had 2 old wiley foxes from each end that tied us down for a good while.
Our opening bowler still has this amazing ability to spray it everywhere, but still pick up wickets. I picked up 2-30 off 9.3, bit dissapointed really as when things aren't going well in the game everyone has an opinion on how to bowl off spin, suddenly yesterday I was surrounded by 10 swannys

How many off spinners does it take to change a light bulb? 10.
1 to change the light bulb and 9 to say they could've done it better.

I lost the toss with half a first team and we were put in to bat vs probably the best opening bowler in the league. We knew we wouldn't finish the game and we only had 3 batters out so crease occupation was the name of the day, runs completely irrelevant. My opening partner is a bit of an ego and it was amusing watching him completely outclassed as the opening bowler was getting fantastic movement off the seam so was cutting him apart as he couldn't just play through the line. The bowler preceded to nip out a second teamed (weak one at that) first ball at three and our only remaining batsmen for a duck (as good a ball as I've ever seen tbf) so it was me left with basically a tail of 3xi players :)

Save the ashes time which was great fun. Thunder and lightening came, then the rain and it was game off.. Nice 70 odd ball net against a decent bowler on a bowling wicket. It was very enjoyable and a real test of technique and shot selection. Great fun.

Also saw Tewkesburys slogger who opens got found out as I'm sure it wasn't a flat track for him to biff.. We have them next week in the last league game but I'm not bothering to play (neither are most of the 1xi) as they are unpleasant and it's simply not enjoyable. We'd rather conceded or send a load of jnrs and give them a free game

Have to say I much preferred this wicket to flat roads as it takes skill and patience to score on but I'm sure players who just biff through the line would disageee.

Seems like a real mature and adult thing to do that, send kids to play against them instead of putting up with it as a first 11 player and just getting on with it

No one is interested in playing them, sad but true. Can't force people to play teams who regardless of the result its un enjoyable.

You sign up for the Season not to pick and choose which Games to play me personally your 1st Team will be setting a far better example to the rest of the Club by playing and showing them regardless of opposition no one is bigger than the game

How's that theory working for participation ?? Games have to be enjoyable, gone are the days you can bid people to do things etc. Hence why the game is losing players each year. No one however seems to understand that or offer an answer other than shorten the game (which doesn't help) and still wonder why people leave. Your answers show why.. Complete lack of understanding.

Anyway, 1-3 games left for most, hopefully people will enjoy it as the game needs to keep people playing. Our area it appears will be losing at least 4 teams next year from the structure :(

You can tell him he's wrong all you wants, but he won't listen.

He moans and moans that the game is dying, but he doesn't realise him and his team is why!

If the oppo score to many runs, they refuse to chase.

If they don't have a full strength 11 out, they refuse to try and win.

If the oppo aren't all perfect, they refuse to play them.

When they play a poor friendly side, they believe retiring at 100 off 65 balls is a sporting thing to do.

All I see is a sore bunch of losers, quick to moan but unwilling to change.

These kids you keep sending to the apparent poor opposition, they will get fed up off being sent, and rather than find a new club, just sod it off all together. And then you'll be on here claiming the "poor attitude oppo" has cost you some more juniors.
Nope! You and your 1st xi will have cost you some juniors by acting like spoiler brats.

If you look in the mirror you will find the reason why participation levels are down.

Heaven forbid you try and get more people playing the game and enjoying it.

No point  in turning up playing and paying to not enjoy it
Not enjoying  leads to people stop playing.
