First weekend back at home (Herts) from uni (York); whilst only averaging in the late twenties for Univeristy I had decided to throw myself down the order on the Saturday in the limited overs part of the league. Only four from six balls not out was all I could muster at the back end of a woeful team innings. However, the vicar in me decided to come out and spank 94* yesterday opening up and accumulating a huge 220 second-wicket partnership with our overseas (New club record! :D) chasing down the 233 total with ease.

Yet to get my average for the club but I will hopefully follow suit with @jamielsn15 in having a ridiculous average after this weeks fixtures  :D Good start to the season I reckon.

yesterday's game was the sort of game i absolutely hate... what i call....

'win the toss, win the game'

turned up at the oppo's ground (notoriously dodgy council ground) and the pitch looked shocking - loads of patchy clumps of grass, a bit damp underneath but with some cracks and sloped as it was the last track on the square.

as you can guess we lost the toss and got put in and i went out to open the batting....

i have never in my 25 years of playing (at all the levels i have played) had to work so hard to score, it was ridiculous, you had no way of knowing what the ball was doing, short and it either rolled or flew up if it hit a grass clump or a crack - so it also did that off a length and then because of the slope the movement off the track was exaggerated as well. Literally the only way you could score was off full tosses or genuine half volleys. I batted for almost 3 hours for 48 - i was the 9th wicket in the 40th over as we were 125 all out.

then we proceeded to bowl like drains and the pitch got a bit better with the sun on it as they got the runs 3 down.

such a frustrating day of cricket.

Played 2s Saturday and was asked to play 1's, but due to work commitments could not play as it was a 8.30am - 9.00am meet.

Well, the game (if you want to call it) only lasted a couple of hours.

We bowled first and bowled oppo out for 54 inside 28 overs. Only thing I did was take a one handed catch at gulley. We skittled the runs off in 5.5 overs for loss of no wickets. So, that was beer o'clock.

First LMS game of the season tonight, opened the batting and scored 60 with my Mongoose COR3. It's an absolute weapon and allowed me to even hit a few lusty blows. Handed it over to a team mate and he went 646 straight away.

Managed to bowl their Aussie pro too when decided to switch hit me and had his furniture rearranged.

Having a torrid time with the bat - 14,14,15,0,1,14 so far this season. Last one was most annoying tho, felt really good, everything was out the middle of the bat, then came down to a spinner and missed the ball only for it to hit my foot and bowl
Me from about a foot outside leg...cricket can be a cruel mistress.

One of those amazing games tonight.
Went up against the strongest in the midweek league with a team of kids and 3rd XI players, leading some stern words from myself and another to the 1st XI/2nd XI skipper to sort availability out!
In any case, I batted liked a drain but the youngsters were brilliant, all chipping in with one scoring a really well-made 24 with a beautifully lusty 6 down the ground to boot!
We posted a below-par 86, but given the pitch and the opposition, I was delighted.

The kids bowled brilliantly, as did the few adults we had, and we were at last electric in the field- really committed, something I've been working on with them.
It was getting tense at the end, and I was thrown the ball with two wickets to win, returning 2 for 4 off 1.4 overs at the death. Absolutely delighted with the game and especially my bowling- got a nice leggie to grip leading to a catch in close, and then a proper toppie after two leggies to snare a nice LBW. Very happy.

What was even more rewarding though, was seeing the fire in the kids eyes in the last few overs, and then their celebrations when we won. That is what keeps youngsters coming back for more. A proper Leicester City moment for us. SO HAPPY!!!

2020 Tuesday

Opening partner on Saturday sacred 100 off 36 balls against a team who really fancy themselves. I took a team of 3xi players to them last year and they just mercilessly thrashed the poor sods even though I said bat first guys as we are very weak and won't chase 100.. They posted 200

So this time it was a stronger side (not strongest) and we gave them a thrashing in return , 239 off 20.. Shock horror hey moaned and complained that we took it too seriously.. Only response 'well, we turned up last year and let you bat first and told you we were weak and yet you felt the need to thrash us, so,we just returned the favour'

Never used to be a fan of such things but it is depressing when teams know your weak and you try and make a game and yet they just want to thrash you.. Oh well, pay back was enjoyable to watch, doubt they'll change their attitude though and they finished our 2020 league side off as we dropped out after that and didn't fulfil the last 3 fixtures as the guys weren't prepared to just get thrashed for people's egos. Shame, guys now are not playing because of these guys.

@JG We played at your place last year against your ones. I play for Baldock. You had us in real trouble 90 odd for 9 batting first then the heavens opened. Obviously your guys were keen to keep the game on, so we had to wait around for a while but we just had a few beers in the clubhouse! Lovely ground and a pretty good deck too!
