I've had a better start to the season than some of my team mates so i can't complain but if it makes anyone feel a bit better he's how my Saturday went.

Had to pick up an ID card on the way to the game-late getting it.
A team mate who is 'high maintenance' asked for a lift to the match -late picking him up
North circular trip(my least favourite road in the world)
Passenger team mate spend the journey complaining about everything and anything to do with the club.
Brain frazzled by the time we arrived at the ground-late
Rushed to get ready - dunno about anyone else I like to get to the game an hour before the start to relax
We were 20-3 when I went in not ready to bat got a good ball and stumps were everywhere first ball duck
Problem team mate asked to borrow my (only) bat, hit 60 and the bat split in two horizontally-it (was) an absolute beauty.
Oppo umpire decided to give us no decisions despite the plummest lbw s ever.we lost the match.
Journey back even worse than journey there.
Got back to my home club to find lots of advice 'really....never lend your bat to anyone else'
Finally got home after dropping of problem team mate at 1030 pm with 'I can see your upset about the bat-sorry'
Went to bed

Cricket I still love it.

I hate cricket too, or at least I'm falling out of love with it at the moment. Tried a more aggressive approach as a way to get out of my awful form, but on a difficult 2-paced wicket only succeeded in hopelessly lobbing a drive to extra cover for 1. We were supposed to be playing at the Met Police ground at Imber Court, a real road, however owing to a c***-up by the oppo, when we discovered another team expecting to play on the same ground, we found ourselves at a horrible damp council rec in Hersham. The one consolation is that we're top of the league after a huge win, our powerful middle order took us to 220 which on that pitch was a massive score, and we skittled them with the old ball for 78.
Got to keep thinking that form is temporary, etc, etc...

That's the saddest story I've ever heard... Bat death, Golden & a Loss? It never rains, but it pours I guess.

On the upside, you need a new bat! And if you're having a bat, you'll need new gloves. And if you're having a new bat and gloves, you'd look silly if you didn't have matching pads... Happy shopping!

Probably a subject for another thread, what should happen when someone breaks your bat.

And the moral of the story is: never lend your only bat do not rush around on match day and do not let anything or anyone break your preparation routine.

Unfriendly game yesterday, Oppos are a nasty team with a couple of decent lads mixed in. As a team we won and won well but they've had at least four guys reported for breaches in the new rules regarding sledging, language, bahaviour and in heir skippers case, physical intimidation. Hopefully the league throws the book at him.

Good win though which as a team we needed more purely for confidence but as a team we are suffering massive availability issues which means we just haven't been able to put a proper team out so we aren't challenging this season sadly.

Main culprit is players reached an age girlfriends get involved and people start having to attend weddings

First Game yesterday. batted ok for 23. given out LBW to a left arm over bowler, umpire missed the fact it pitched outside leg stump, and I was half way down the track and I hit it.

We posted 222 against the best team in our division, they needed 167 from the last 25 overs and got them with 2 balls left. good game.

On the plus side, the pitch I prepared got top mark on our grounds report.

Played on a cracking batting track yesterday. And we arrived with very little bowlers.

2 first team bowlers injured(both bowled if 1 step run ups) 1 seconds team bowler and two very part timers.

Oppo posted 230 which could have been less(3dropped catches) but could have been more(they were on 190 with ten left)

We got off to a steady start, 40 if first ten when first wicket fell followed two ball later by wicket number 2.

Middle order struggled as oppos first change bowler bowled a cracking spell and we slipped to 60 for 6!

Two partnerships got us to 138 with 18 overs still remaining, but we lost both key batsmen and it didn't look good.
Thankfully we bat to number ten l(who has several league hundreds), and a fantastic partnership between him and number 9 got us to 215 with 6 overs to spare.

But oppo bought on there secret weapon! Lol..... 2 massive full toss down leg that could have been placed anywhere, but the joys of amateur cricket meant they were both tried to be smashed out of Sheffield, and lead to a top edge caught!

Number 11 was an u15 who isn't a great batsmen, and with the last ball off the over our number 9 tried to guide it to third man for 1 and merely guided it into the stumpers hands!! Lost by 15 with 5 overs left.

Was proper gutted! Can put blame on a lot but our middle order not getting passed single figures cost use.

Em I made 8 from 8, got absolutely bamboozeld by a slower ball. And the stumps slightly rearranged. My bad form continues.

Played against a very weak 3rd team yesterday for our 2s, and we had 7 players who were regularly in the 1s last season. It was rather one sided.
We got 261-4 on a very damp pitch with an incredibly slow outfield at home, and that's with our best bat getting a second ball duck. My own contribution was 32 when opening, rather frustratingly got myself mixed up with and missed a full straight one to be given out LBW when I was set. Our 3 and 4 got 63 and 84 respectively and our No.5 got 44* off 20 at the end.

They got 120 all out in just over 38 overs, my own contribution was 10-4-20-3 which I was happy with after 6-39 last week, but disappointed to have a stonewall LBW turned down and a legitimate catch turned down by their umpire who thought it was a bump ball. May have got a bit angry at them which was silly given how easily we were going to win the game.    :(

Still another win, that's 3 in a row and 3 out of 4.

Our 1s lost chasing 138 on a Cambridge College pitch, but their excuse was the covers had leaked so the pitch was ruined. Didn't help that with 3 to win with 2 overs left and 3 wickets in hand there were 3 run outs which lost them the game. Incredible. Oh well that's their first loss of the season, so I am sure they will be back next week.

We won - I got 4-36 of 10 overs.

I bowled a lovely first 6 overs, bending it around, and then for some reason bowling completely deserted me, and I could barely get the ball up the other end for the last 4.

I had a bit of a meltdown and retired after the game, I then un-retired myself this morning and told myself to get on with it.

Incredibly frustrating though, as my brain and my hand know what they have to do, and then suddenly the connection is broken - it's all in the mind, I think I'll have to do some reading up on the dreaded 'yips'.

Your 2s were decent when I played them 3 years ago or so, although you had a few first teamers playing as it was their week off.

At your place last year your 1s had an offy from your 2s playing who I thought was a good bowler. He opened up with your usual number 11 (not Cross as he wasn't playing) and he bowled really well.

We've done Binfield this season, next week we'll have done Littlewick for season then following week likewise with Wraysbury!

We now have a 3 pronged spin attack. Paresh, our previous number 11, has now been dropped to the seconds and has taken it rather badly. Chris Cross is still playing, and the other spinners are myself and another Alex who I guess you mean as he's an offie, who got a couple of wickets vs Taplow last year. We saw that as we'd thumped The Lee to guarantee promotion and were on the beers back at ours.

Anyhows we got a really good win over Binfield yesterday. Stuck them in, and our 2s opening quick, up in 1sts as 2s game was cancelled as we couldnt get a team out, removed 3 of their top 4 with stumps out the ground every time. Other spinners got a couple of wickets each but weren't bowling particularly well and took some tap, so I didn't get on until the 40th over. Bowled them out in the 48th, I finished with 4.2/1/11/3, they had 212ao. Chased it 5 down with 4 overs to spare, contributions all the way, and at 9 I wasn't needed to bat. To be honest I was fuming at not getting on until so late given how many runs the other spinners went for, but hey ho, I'm now averaging just over 9 with the ball in div1, am the clubs leading wicket taker with 13 league and 2 knockout, and somehow am top of the fielding stats.

We have Taplow tomorrow evening in the KO, are you playing @meats?

Nice one, I was batting when your 2s got back last season. Opened up and scored a slow 60 odd not out to see us home.

Good result for you guys, Binfield decent side but lacking a bowler or two. Must admit I was surprised when I saw the result via twitter! I can just imagine his reaction when he was dropped to the 2s haha!! He started hitting a golf ball around the boundary last year and then in the big grounds opposite your pavillion for most of your innings. And yes I believe I'm playing, no idea what side is like but would imagine it will be a mix of 1s and 2s.

We beat Denham yesterday. Don't have the worst bowling side in league but their batting line up is really poor. I'd be amazed if there are 2 worse sides than them in the league this year. That being said, didn't stop me from getting my second duck of the season opening up, hopefully I'll have a similar response to the last one where I got a ton the following week :)

We're struggling to work out who will go down with Denham. We haven't played Pinkneys yet but reckon Coleshill have enough to survive. Maybe Littlewick?

Keep going Cat.we have a left arm slow bowler who has the yips.it only improved by bowling it quicker to get thru the action.im now bowling expert but thats the only thing that worked.

Questionable captiancy today.
After quite a pacey start by the opposition (going at close to 13 an over), I bowled an over that went for 3 runs and picked up the wicket of their more aggressive opener with a beautiful cutter. For some daft reason, was dropped down the order to number 5 and, with the equation nigh on impossible when I got to the crease, my 78 off 32 was in vain. Ended up getting out to a very dubious call. Normally I'm one to walk, but I'm certain I was nowhere near it. Hey-ho.
