We have and a torrid week off constant rain. drainage on outfield good, but not a chance to prepare a wicket. And to be fair it was pretty wet looking.
Captain phoned oppo up to say game could go ahead easily but on our artificial(allowed in our league if agreed by both captains). There captain immediately said on phone they won't be playing on artificial as dangerous for juniors.
On arrival umpires said they was happy to go ahead on artificial, again there skipper said it was dangerous for there juniors, umpires asked how, and his reply was "they've only bought spikes"
Our skipper said I phoned you and said we was trying for artificial and he replied "well I didn't tell them as I think it's dangerous"
Umpires decided game was on, on the wet unprepared wicket but start would be delayed. There skipper once again proclaimed "but it's dangerous, a junior might hurt himself"
They Batted first, 2 juniors came out to bat and amusingly asked the umpire "why aren't we on the artificial?"
And they wonder why this game is dying. To many idiots in charge of clubs teams and leagues.
We bowled them out for 91 in 35.3overs.
And knocked them off with 15 overs of our innings left, albeit 7 down! Me with a dig in 6 not out.
