I don't think many sides would bother chasing 350 odd if they lost a couple of early wickets. Our aim in that situation would be to get maximum batting points. I would be asking questions as to why the captain of side batting first felt the need to score that many unless it's win/lose cricket.

He didn't he  was going to declare in the 290s as 250 on our track in August is a par score that said  he wanted the guy on 87 to get his maiden ton
Also for maximum Batting points you need to score 200 which gets you 4 points.

Fair enough letting him get his ton but it gets to a point where you score too many for a lot of sides to even bother chasing. I don't know how your league works but I'm assuming that if you declare early then you get those overs to bowl opposition out? Apologies if answered initially but I haven't reread initial post.

Close win yesterday at Wraysbury. Skipper, who looked like death when I picked him up, won the toss so we had a bat and posted 214/9 from 52. Personally got 16, caught on the extra cover boundary slicing a drive. Previous over I had hit a spinner out of the ground, over the trees straight and into the tennis courts, which is something I've always wanted to do at my home ground!
Opened the bowling with the other leggie, and we had the oppo 68/5 from 23 trying to chase the runs. We ended up getting them ao for 198, their skipper smashed us around for a while. Took a catch on the cow boundary where I didn't even have to move to take it, before my spin twin ran out their skipper to finish the game. I was going to have the last over, but they needed 17 off 10 when the skipper was out going for a second. Overall figures 14/3/49/2, figures don't really reflect how well I bowled as there were some horrible heaves for 6 off me.

Your right there becomes a situation where teams batting second  are batted out of  winning the game.
Yes it's  90 per match which means if the side Batting first declares at 40  overs they get to bowl 50 overs

I hate cricket!
To top off yesterday's horror show, I can hardly move my right leg today (landed awkwardly taking a catch yesterday).

Having had time to reflect on yesterdays game though it may not be all doom and gloom.
We lost the toss and conceded 374-5. A couple of the youngsters had fielding horror shows (balls through their legs for 4, dropped dollies etc).
On the bright side though I took a decent catch at cow to remove their overseas player (which may have been the difference between, conceding 374 and a 400+ score!) and heads were kept up by most of the team despite the mammoth score.

Batting wise our opener grafted for a 50, but that was the only real positive. We had 4 players get ducks and were pretty much humiliated with a 230 run defeat. We're now well and truly in a relegation scrap, but thanks to other results doing us a favour it's still in our own hands!

Finally, someone who gets it

Another ton today off 65 balls but the bowling wasn't great so they bowled plenty of 4 balls. Retired out straight away as we want as many people as possible to bat. Oppos weren't strong so we bowled all the kids  they got a big score. No point smashing anyone on Sunday's

He can do it when they bat first, but if it's a chase over 250, he won't on principle. Better to dig in for the draw.

Skippered my Sunday side today in our last home friendly of the season (still 5 away matches !!). Opposition won the toss, opted to bat first and scored 170 off their 40 overs with everyone on our team bowling (apart from the 'keeper).
After having batted at 10 or 11 all season, I decided (with a little prompting from our vice captain) that I would open. However after yesterday's woeful failure with my new lighter bat. I reverted back to my old 3lb+ Nixon bat and employed an almost crab-like stance with zero bat-lift. My plan was based on crease occupation for first few overs then open up but actually the opposite happened as I confidently put away early loose deliveries before hitting a wall (mentally rather any nearby physical boundary structure). I ended up scoring a painfully slow 26 (before being LBW for the 2nd time this weekend) but my departure allowed our big hitter to arrive at the crease and we reached our target with just 1 over to spare.

I think we'd have rather been in a game chasing high 200s... Casually strolled to victory, by 4pm... chasing 66... - Worst and best feeling all rolled into 1! Managed to get back home and see the 2s get absolutely spanked.

@WalkingWicket37

I'm back playing for Ripley up in Yorkshire. Decided I'm probably not ever going to get my call up... ;), so just play with my mates! Was horrendous - to top it off, they were a proper c**ky set... then got well and truly rolled.

I will admit, I'd quite like to walk out and not be facing the opposition Overseas every week..! They come over after playing a season of Grade 1 cricket, and know what they're doing with the ball!

I know our thirds had a bit of a trek but I don't think Yorkshire would be able to sneak a side into the Hampshire league!

I no longer feel I need to apologise haha :D

Good weekend all round for ashorne,

Won on Saturday by 33 to close the gap to second to 5 points, nice tough game against the team in 2nd with some good bowling and anther solid batting display a bit of a wobble in the field with a few overthrows but generally all in all a satisfying day

And the Sunday team won handsomely on Sunday which I popped over to watch as t was close to home so all in all a cracking weekend minus a turned ankle which should be ok for next weekend with plenty of ice and strapping not the first time I've done it so hopefully will heal nice a quickely again

Forum shout out: @uknsaunders taking 16-6-35-5 for the weekend, Shame the 5 weren't in our Saturday game though :p

We have 4th in the ta le next weekend so hopefully our promotion push will continue then!!!

Good weekend for us. We won our first league game in 4 years. It's crazy but this season we've shown real signs of turning the club around.
