Developing some sort of batting technique - beginner
« on: April 08, 2016, 12:35:51 PM »

I've just got back into the game after playing a bit as a teen and a couple of intramural games at university. I wasn't a particularly great player but I could bowl consistently and could take some catches. I never really gave batting much attention though.

Where's a good place to start? Ive had a few net sessions and I have a ton of poor habits and instinct from playing hockey all my life. I basically forget my top hand exists at all, get my feet in odd places or don't move them at all and spend every conscious effort fighting myself to playing with a vertical bat.

How do I separate the discipline of batting in my mind? I can only get over to net sessions once a week so what can I work on alone in between nets to get the most out of them?

First of all just hold the bat in the top hand, hold a tennis ball between your chin and your neck, drop it, let it bounce a couple of times then step toward it and try to hit it as straight as possible

As said before, ball in a sock tied to some string, hang it up to something that won't ruin anything

I had a look but it seems the older ones have been removed from youtube or the links are dead?

I find that using a Stump at nets helps you find the middle when you use a Bat out in the middle.
