A Collosal Acquisition (Pardon the Pun)
« on: April 14, 2016, 05:36:37 PM »

Having read the hype that was going around about Kippax, I wanted to find out what all the fuss was about. I trolled through eBay and came across this stick. I wouldn't call it an 'eBay Bargain' but I thought it was a good price considering these retail at just over 300 notes and it's completed brand new apart from someone bouncing a ball on it.

Speaking to the seller, he said it wasn't a Colossus which it clearly is considering the blade is roughly an inch shorter and there is the Kippax embossing on the edge which you don't see anymore on the Pure Blades I don't think, the only thing missing is the Colossus stickers on the side which, to be honest, makes it look better as it looks a bit too much with them on.

The bat itself weighs 2.9.5 and does pick up a fair bit lighter. The edges are 41mm and there are 7 dead straight grains, a bit disappointing as my Blank Bats net bat had the same but by the sound of things Kippax bats need some playing in time before they are properly ready to go anyway. The ping is very impressive and the Wavex handle does add for some reduced vibration. Do I need it in my armoury? Not sure as yet, but nonetheless a very impressive eBay find - very light and very big.

Here are the pictures:

You can tell from the photos that's a quality bat.

Interesting to see how you get on vs those B&S - I've got one and it was given the once over in the factory so didn't bother knocking it in but only 3 nets in as for sure it does need playing in. Pretty light one you've picked up - I use generally 2.11 bats and the one I have is 2.13 (only thing I'd say is thin handle)

Oh wow...decals are very loud. They are actually competing with some asian brands  :(

It does pick up very light mate that is for sure, I'm a 2.11 or there abouts user and this is rather light in comparison. This stick came with a double chevron so the handle actually felt pretty nice. From the sounds of things needs about a month or so with some bowling machine balls.

The back of the bat I'm not the biggest fan of sticker wise. The WAVEX stickers that they have are much better!!

Not a bad stick mate - I'm more of a grain buff and like many a grain, so mine are taking even longer to open up!

Chris makes some absolute beauties - and they do go like absolute trains when ready! Just hoping mine is ready for Saturday..!

Would post photos but don't have any ;) I'm at 2lb 13.5 and 2lb 14, so a bit heavier than yours, but they pick up ridiculously light!

Stickers point: Agree - think they could be better, but they're better / more modern than the old dragon stickers...

Have to let me know how it goes! :D

Does go mate that is for sure and a massive stick, just too light for me as I use more up the 2.11/2.12 end. Used it for six balls in the nets and I was so early on everything. Will probably sell it on here at some point soon, try and increase my B&S collection haha

It's bizarre at first but you get used to it. I can see where they're coming from as the vibration is really reduced.

Well, definitely worth the wait buddy! Mine still hasn't opened up, yet just leaned on one and boom, it went rifling through the covers. Possibly going to top spot of bats I've owned!

The Wavex handle is quite strange really.  My match bat is a Colossus which I used towards the end of last season and my spare is a PureBlade which is unused in a match yet.

I think the idea is to reduce vibration and flex in the handle meaning more energy/power is actually passed onto the ball, rather than been lost as the handle flexes.

The reason I say it's strange is because the sound and feel as you hit the ball is different, I'd probably even say that the sound and feel isn't great, but the ball just absolutely pings off the bat so for me anyway the technology works.

I still have 1 brand new Colossus (2lb 14.4oz) & 2 brand new PureBlades (2lb 13.3oz & 2lb 13.6oz) if anyone is looking for one for this season?

The main reason I got rid of my Kippax was because it was too light but that 2.13.3 sounds incredible!! Wish I had some spare funds to take it off your hands!!
