eBay bargain Puma
« on: April 16, 2016, 12:15:35 PM »

So, after spotting this and getting lucky that noone posted it in the bargain spots thread, I took a punt on a Puma Bionic 4000. Turned up today, very happy. 2.10.5 or so with one grip, 40mm edges and a decent spine! Lovely oval handle, pings nicely but badly needs some knocking in, will get better I think.
Photos:

'Needs a bit more knocking' said the listing... No kidding! Don't think it's ever seen a drop of oil either.

Very full profile, nice duckbill

Get the edge tape off and give the face a sand to take those marks out and it will look brand new.
I'd be tempted to remove the toe guard too, but I do have an irrationally strong hatred towards them...

Edge tape and toe guard have indeed already gone, had a light sand and a coat of oil too. It's basically a brand new bat I think, judging by the dents the mallet leaves it's never been knocked in at all! Get happier with this buy by the hour, the ping bouncing a ball on it is seriously good.

Forgot to mention, the addition of this bat means I can now be a full kit (No Swearing Please) if I choose with it matching my softs.

Not playing next Sunday's game against your lot Tom, as things stand anyway. 30th could well be its' debut hit though! You playing that one @thecord?

We've got two matches that day and teams not confirmed yet. If I had to guess I'd say no as I think our other keeper will probably play against you

Well after taking the tape and toe guard off and preparing it properly, she's looking a beaut, ready for a scuff! Very dry bit of willow it seems to me, anyone know where Pumas are made these days? SS?

it's a very nice bargain this one. it looks from the photos nicely made. some models were made by rob pack, mostly made in india don't know by who thou(millichamp and h...)  ooops sorry.

any road up looks a nice bat. If you have the view Indian made bats are not as well finished as English made bats, and im not saying that's totally true, this looks as well finished as an English bat-if it is made in India of course.

normally says on the handle sticker but this may not have one...

*goes and looks at handle sticker* Made in India! Thanks mate, don't know how I missed that ha, although from the size of it and how dry it seems I'd have been amazed if it was English. More curious as to Sondhi or SS. Indian bat finishing does seem to have largely caught up in fairness, the few I've had through my hands in the past year or so have been just as well finished off as most English-made bats.

to be fair, looking again at your photos the willow and the shape if I didn't know most of them were made in India I would of said for that particular bat English made, just by gut feeling how the bat looks.

So, all in all it looks like a very good deal.perhaps the top quality from SS etc is getting much closer to some of the UK brands-as in how well made the bats are....

I spot an Innis and Gunn in the bar fridge in the background. I quite enjoyed the Rum Finish version.

Bat looks like a good buy too.
