Best Pace Attack of all time.. and Current
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:29:15 PM »

All time pace attack IMO - Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis..
WI would be 2nd just by an inch Holding and boys were nasty too..

Currently - Again have to go with the Paki team after last night if the trio of Mohamad's (Asif, Ameer and Sami) are healthy they can cause havoc on any lineup on any kind of pitch.. yorkers, swing, leg cutters, bouncers etc... you name it they got it.. scary sight they arent that old either, they can be around for awhile..

Sorry disagree, at their best McGrath, Gillespie and either Lee or Kasprowicz and the Windies battery of fast bowling where immense. can't choose between them.

Asif is useless unless there's some grass on the wicket. I mean not many batsmen will be worried of an 80mph seamer on a flat track.

Sami also was fortunate that the track had grass on it. As during his career, more often than not, he was a spray gun.

and currently I would say Australia's attack is the most pacy. I mean Siddle can touch 150kph. Johnson can clock 155kph. The there's Bollinger and Hilfenhaus whom both can get into the mid 140's. Watson isn't to far behind either, around 140 kph.

yes but can they take 20 wickets this goes out to all the suggestions out there , to be a top class pace attack they must be able to take 20 wickets with the exception of say 4 to a spinner or medium pacer

I think you would be hard pressed to take Holding, Roberts, Marshall and Lillee to piece's on any track.

Today you have yet to find a current pace bowler who has done enough to be rated at the top, maybe Lee has come the closest.

I think he has taken valuable wickets during his time and no mention of Test only status in header, think what Lee did in the recent T20 Club Cup in India.

There's no doubting Brett Lee's ability and talent. Not everyone can bowl at 150kph, but he has the ability to reserve swing it at that pace as well which makes him unplayable at times. his control in ODI seems to be better than Test cricket though. But in Test matches he was often there to soften up the opposition whilst McGrath would suffocate them with his accuracy.

Marshall Garner Wasim Lee Mcgrath

Marshall for his pace and acurracy
Garner for his ability to break toes
Wasim for reverse swing also brings the left arm option
Lee for pace and batting
Glenn for accuracy

If all the Fast Bowlers have to be from the same country at the same time up there close to the top (if not at the top) would have to be the West Indies in the mid 70s with the likes of Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Andy Roberts & Colin Croft. There are other combinations from Australia (like Lillee/Thomson), Pakistan and other countries but for Best Pace Attack of all time .. and Current I think the perspective of the opposition batsmen could help answer the question. The depth of that relentless fast bowling is probably unequalled. Though I'm not sure all five players played in a match all at the same time. What a great problem to have if you were a West Indies selector back in the mid 70s.
