Hi guys,

Been a while since I have been on here, not played for over a season due to illness but now back and ready. I have purchased a custom H4L for the new season which is a copy of my last bat which was a machine for me but is now broken.

I went to visit Matt who is a great guy and he was very patient with me.

I have netted indoors a few times with the bat and played a club T20 game Saturday on a very green pitch but found that I could not time a thing!! The bat pings off the mallet nicely but in nets and games has not yet felt right, its probably just my lack of batting over the past couple of seasons but I worry that it feels slightly off, I know the bat wqas knocked in on site at H4L but does anyone with a H4L bat know if it takes a while to open up so to speak? Does anyone have any advice on timing practice drills?

My advice is to just bat with it, you'll get used to it with use and our timing will improve.

I have a *cough* couple of H4Ls and they all ping well from the off when I start using them, but I have spent a bit of time on each with my LV mallet which probably helps.

Thats the plan, I think it s a case of just getting tused to being on the grass again, indoor nets do little to prepare for the early season conditions, I wasn't for one minute saying I thought the bat was a dud but never having owned one I was just seeing what those who have thought.

Out of around 8no bats only maybe 1-2 needed a bit of playing in, not much though. They have all flown, not sure the ping has anything to do with the timing issue though? Practise  is the best cure for that, get a look at @Buzz 's kitchen batting videos for some help. They give excellent advice on the basics

Clearly the bats fault, in true CBF fashion it's time for you to get a new blade pal!

Thanks to some for the helpful replies, others not so much. I wasn't criticizing the bat at all, like I said I've been out of it for a over a season so things arent going to feel the same, last time I played I was 8 stone heavier than I am now so everything feels out of sync at the moment, all I asked was does it play well right away or does it need a bit of opening up

What's your favorite shot? Have someone throw a few balls at you for you to play that shot. Have the throw downs be nice and easy so you can just middle your favorite shot. Only do that for the whole session....you will get your confidence back and also begin to enjoy the new bat.

Can get back to "normal" nets etc once this is done.

Thanks for the tip, I will be netting tonight (if the ground is dry enough) so will give it a go
