Shoulder Injury
« on: May 05, 2016, 12:47:18 PM »

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone will have experienced a similar problem to this and can help, I have a very small tear in a tendon in my shoulder and am not able to bowl without a lot of pain. Being very much a bowling all rounder this is proving very frustrating after just two games of the season.

I am awaiting a physio appointment on the NHS but I was wondering if anyone had experienced a similar problem and had an exercises or suggestions that may help?

Thanks

See if you can get a thorough band and do some strengthening exercises with it as its then controlled in both directions which should help stabilise the joint.

When I ruptured my bicep I used them at physio doing a range of exercises with them, there are different colours/grades of them so some are stiffer in terms of flexion than others.

hello mate, yes.....ive got tendonitis in my shoulder and 'golfers elbow'. I started a thread under 'golfers elbow' it seems a few of us on the forum have similar injuries. I cannot throw until my 3 months of physio is finished.

I went to a private physio who diagnosed a problem ive had all last season in 2 mins flat...shoulder tendonitis and elbow were linked to each other. So im working on strengthening the shoulder muscles.

bit hard to explain the excercises, your physio may be you specific ones.....the main one I have is facing a wall you 'climb it like spiderman'.

I reach up and around as if reaching fore a can of beans.....the arm goes around in stead of straight up.

got 2 months left of that.

it's alright as Spiderman was my hero as a kid and in adulthood   :) :)

hope this helps, I have a 3 month period before I can throw overarm again.....

im not medically qualified thou so cannot be sure this will help you or that you have the same excercises...it's similar injury but you will have to wait till you see a physio I would think.

good luck

I've had 5 dislocations on my shoulders (3 on the right and 2 on the left) had an operation on the right one a few years ago, have a look on the web for exercises using the bands they are really good.  One thing the physio told me was to make sure you keep using it but manage the pain or discomfort, if it hurts stop.

I can bowl fine now ( I mean pain free, my bowling is poo) and batting and golf are all fine.  My throwing is embarrassing but I can live with that.

Take it slow and steady though rushing will make it worse in the long run.

Good luck buddy.

I had a partial tendon tear in my lh shoulder.
I ignored it, tried exercises(thera band), dosed up on painkillers.
In the end, went to see a doc and had an operation to sort it.
Rehabilitation was 12-18mths!

I had exacerbated the problem by continuing to play through the pain, so my advise would be to seek medical advice before possibly causing further issues

If it's a very small tear rest it for several weeks. You are not going to heal a tear by playing through it,you'll only aggravate it. Tendons and ligaments have very little blood supply and heal slowly, be patient and don't rush it.

Shoulders always seem to take longer to heal than expected. I do a lot of canoeing and find swimming the best exercise to maintain flexibility and increase strength.

I went to the GP and that's what she diagnosed it as, I still have full movement if I move it slowly and it only really hurts when I'm bowling and then the next few days after.

I think the key message from everyone is don't rush back into it as it will only make it worse. I will try all the things suggested I did some of the exercises last night and it did seem to free things up a bit. I'm going to have a couple of months not playing at all I think make sure I'm not tempted into having a bowl before it's healed.

Much appreciated from you all I hope you all have good seasons.

I got my Glenoid Labrum Tear detached of left hand shoulder and the result was that I just can't hit a six without getting Pain. It made ticking noise.

Here is Info: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00426

I went through the arthroscopic surgery and the ticking stopped. I still feel pain while hitting cover driver, square cuts and over the top sixes. That must be rehabilitation isn't complete yet. I will be consulting different specialist for pain
