I've never had a problem with blisters (touch wood) from cricket shoes.
However, that said, for my bowling/fielding shoes, i always wear mine for at least one training session/warm ups, before going into a game.
I find shoes are slightly different in sizing, even in the same brand, so i usually have the cheap foam inserts under my orthotics to make them snug. Having a couple of sessions before a game allows me to adjust the amount of foam ones exactly right and not having my footwear distracting me from my job on the field.
I tend to by my gear during end of season sales. For shoes, this gives a good opportunity to break them in a bit at the end of the season, when the old boots are still ok before using them fully the following season.
