Depending on the level played, attitudes towards training can vary wildly

In a previous life as a goalkeeper at a football league club, we aimed to train at a level harder than actual matches. Some of the classic corny cliches do apply

Train insane or stay the same
Don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong

To the point of injury? That is not insane, that is stupid.

I did qualify it by stating it depends on the standard played, but injury is a genuine risk when pushing your limit during practice, this applies in all sports.

Bowling machines are alright if you do not go too overboard with them. Whilst seeming much simpler throwdowns are still an awesome way to go.

Also, not to forget that 80 mph with bowling machine is much tougher than facing a quickie at similar pace. Very unnatural feel too-  Doesn't get you in the best frame of mind or Rhythm - especially if you set it too fast and get hit.

Bola bowling machines are there for practice. It's quite simple. You pick a shot/area you need to work on and a decent speed for your standard and away you go.

But.

If you pick a guy that is a bell end on the feeder, who constantly changes line and length, speed, swing etc. And his only purpose is to get you out like it's a competition. Well then it can get dangerous.

You cannot in anyway pick variations from a static machine.

did the same last night against a human bowler. That's my weekend shot. Might wear my safety shoes in the net next week. My addidas bowling boots have great protection but no spikes in the net rule.

Wow...nasty . Hope it heals quickly .
Just recovering myself from an inswinging yorker to the big toe from a bowling machine . Ive been using a homemade 'toeguard' at the machines/games the last few weeks . Its just neoprene from an old wetsuit taped into a cylinder around my big toe . I copped a ball on the toe yesterday and the sponginess if the neoprene softened the blow . But jeez , would someone (stretton fox , moonwalkr , anyone ?!) please , please make a quality toe guard - inside shoe version / external /either/both , anything , im desperate.....four hits on the toe in the last 3 seasons (including broken big toe) , so id buy a stack of them !

i got off quite lightly with mine. the nail came off the other day but it only really bruised.

the biggest downside is that the boss wont let us use the bowling machines any more as we were being irresponsible with them
