I would've thought this had been covered in a dedicated topic but I can't see one. The last two seasons I've had one bat, for club nets, matches, coaching, everything. I'm starting to think the life's going out of it a bit, it's had two new handles and has hit 1000s of bola balls, which I've read might be linked to delamination.

That bat is 2'8.5 and pretty well balanced, and the next bat I'm after is around 2'12 and ideally pretty bottom-heavy. Is it insane and useless to use my old 2'8.5 bat as a net bat once I get the new one? And if so, do I need to buy another (No Swearing Please) bat with a similar weight and pickup to use in nets once I get my new one?

I use a either a heavier bat or one the sameweight as my match bat in the nets.
You best buy two new sticks, maybe 3, to be on the safe side

Generally people use a heavier bat in the nets to encourage the player to play the ball As late as possible but, for me I tend to use a bat around the same weight, not a bat at the total other end of the scale

I tend to use a slightly lighter bat in nets because nets are generally quicker than pitches in games, so the heavier match bat stops me from being too early on shots

I have used lighter, heavier, and same weight (as the match bat) net bad and settled for same weight net bat in similar profile (or a lower grade same weight copy of the match bat).

I use two of the same bats, so same shape, weight etc (or as close as).

If you are trying to get used to a bat and make net practice as close to a game scenario as possible then use the same kit I say (even down to the pads and gloves if you have a couple of pairs).

 use an Harrow to increase due to  nets being quicker.
