Storm damage?
« on: June 18, 2016, 11:41:03 PM »

I bought this RPC Heritage from eBay last week. It arrived yesterday and all seemed fine until I noticed some faint marks around toe area that look suspiciously like storm damage. Any thoughts?

I'll try and get some better pictures up, it's very hard to get the lighting right. The area of concern is about 2/3 inches up from the toe. The small lines are more pronounced on the right hand side and work their way across the length of the blade. Fingers crossed it's not Storm damaged as the response is superb on this bat.

My eye sites attrotious and I can see the lines you are referring to easily.

Unfortunately I'm not the one to judge one storm damage.

I can see the stress marks you are referring to, if that's the only place they are I wouldn't worry...I've seen these further up the bat before at the back. I've just had a bat break thru storm damage but that was a two year old bat so you could say any bat could break for a number of reasons and to a certain extent it's luck because they cannot all be filtered out as potentially weak willow.

If this was my bat I would look at the back and see if the same marks are there across the grain.
If they are not I wouldn't worry and just play as normal

Good luck I saw tha bat on eBay and it looks very nice indeed.

The shape and patterns Unfortnatly  indicate storm damage but that doesn't mean the bat will break.

Hard to tell but are you even sure the marks are in the willow and not the scuff?

The marks are on the willow, there's a couple of the same marks just below where the scuff sheet ends. Does anyone know if Rob Pack sells 'storm damaged' bats at discounted prices? I've contacted the seller and he has stated that this bat is a grade 1 purchased directly from Rob himself at the full RRP of £260. Knowing how skilled and experienced Rob is I'd be surprised if he didn't notice the marks (they are much more prominent than the pictures can show) and sold it as a grade 1.

Tricky one. Some warranties dont pass to the second owner.  Contact Rob if you can get the purchase details. If the warranty stands, use it. Might be a great bat that lasts like any other.

I could be completely wrong but I really don't think that is storm damage - as I understand it - storm damage manifests itself as darker bars across the wood - almost in a uniform line - unlike what a shown in the pictures which look almost like sanding marks or grooves of some kind - again I'm no expert but I've had a couple of storm damaged bats that had the marks as the darker uniform bars almost like a line of shadow across the bat, however as I said I could be entirely wrong. Hope you get this sorted if it is storm damage

I wouldn't expect the warranty to pass to me, that would be between Rob and the original buyer. I've asked the seller to take the bat bat back due to it being Storm damaged but he has refused. I'm wondering if I would have a case to get my money back through eBay as the item was not as described (i.e sold as a grade one, but I received a storm damaged bat). Has anyone had any similar experiences?
