What's your risk to reward shot
« on: June 21, 2016, 06:12:32 AM »

Be interesting to hear what shot or shots you would love to play but are a bit hesitant to do so for what ever reason. Mine is the cut shot, its a great feeling and looks amazing when you cream it through point/ backward point and will nearly always result in a boundary but its a shot I find I get out to most offton, normally because I don't get over the shot enough so that's my risk vs reward shot.

I'm netting a lot against the short wide ball and have started to find I, having better luck hitting in front of point when cutting now

The dab hands down. Keep thinking I'm just going to edge it to the keeper every time I play it. Been trying to play it more and more as its a great single option.

I have been caught at point/gully a lot going for the cut too early in my innings, but agree it is a great shot to play.

Mine has been the pull shot for a while now. It used to be my go-to shot but now i'm just stuck in the crease trying to play with a vertical bat.

Early on, it's the cover drive; usually a very strong shot, but if I've not got the pace of the wicket, I can be there too early, and just loop it straight to cover, or if there's movement, edge it to the awaiting slip cordon. Do love a good cut as well.

For me it's not really a named shot but it's a wristy wrap through the leg side to the ball just outside off stump played off the back foot as its great to take out a fielder on the off side cause it's an easy 1 or 2 every time but if I get it wrong I get caught and bowled or caught at mid wicket

Cut every day.

Anything off the stumps and shortish is there to be dispatched through the off side.

Either the cut or pull (I just can't play the shot ball!  :( )
Actually, there's no reward in playing them for me, just the risk of dismissal!

I think the sweep would be mine. Very effective when it works, if the ball isn't there for it and I try to manufacture it there's the risk of a top edge or just missing it :-[

been practising that myself this year Cam-meister, it's been a weak point.here's a tip that helped me.....don't try and paddle it or be too fancy-sweep hard and don'tworry about keeping it down. Give it a thump.

And don't be too early on it @WalkingWicket37 @ppccopener
Got hit on the back of my shoulder twice yesterday trying to sweep but it was a bit short and a bit slower than I was expecting

My other risky shot is the Brendon McCullum charge at the quicks, as it works beautifully but not always

I'm strong sweeping but having the confidence early in my innings is difficult.
I also like to use my feet to the spinners but again am hesitant to so early on as don't want to give my wicket away

Mine is over the bowlers head, either get too under it and it goes half way or I get caught and bowled  :o

Mine is the sweep shot . I play it ok in the nets , but during a game i just use my feet to dance down the wicket and drive along the ground because it feels risk free . Often if i don't quite get to the pitch of the ball and end up defending i think 'coulda/shoulda swept it' but I  never do .

I can play almost every shot bar the cut and I still attempt to play it and get caught all the time, anything pitched full goes my best shot is a drive either through mid on or off or even square, anything short I will pull doesn't matter what line it's on or even wide of off stump and love taking the spinners on sweeping or going over the top
