1 to 1 Coaching
« on: June 25, 2016, 08:22:13 PM »

Having got to a point where I feel like jacking in this cricket thing. Having not lasted an over this year.

Can anyone recommend having a 1 to 1 coaching session? Are they effective? Worth the investment?

If so, can you recommend a place that can do this? Based in the South East preferably.

Have seen the MCC one (Bit Pricey), Serious Cricket Basingstoke, Sussex Indoor School, Ageas Bowl, Willowmasters.

Thanks

If I lived in UK, I'd work with Gary Palmer. He recently helped Captain Cook.

It is the best investment I have made in my cricket career - I have had a couple of sessions with Dan housego and he is very very good - based at the oratory school near Wallingford. Also does sessions at Wokingham cc.

Think I may need some 1 on 1 coaching aswell. Need to completely change my action, I have a jack shanty sort of action at the minute, I think I'd be way more effective as a bowler if I had the extra yard of pace, would 1 on 1 coaching be worth it for this or not? Well it's either that or I'll go back to bowling leg spin.

Had one to one coaching for both keeping and batting (different coaches) for a few years. It has helped me so much. Our club doesn't have a coach or any practice.

I am thinking of moving because of this but either way I'll still do the one to one stuff.

Interesting, I've always loved calver as an opposing club, and if I lived closer than a 40minute drive, I'd love to play for them Sunday's/midweek. But alas the journey is to far.
I'm sure they'd miss you if you went.

If presume the journey this way is to far to, but we do have a brand new 2 lane net facility, and on a Wednesday night 4-8 a coach hires this for one on ones. 30minutes slots.
Apart from that we don't have much proper training. Nets at 11am Saturday morning are regular this season, rest of time we just turn up and use them when we want.

Is there anyone else around you(and in our league) that does regular training?

Not sure really. I have played for Hallam's midweek team a few times. Seems like a good club. I wouldn't come to you as you have two excellent keepers already!!

Calver is a great little club. I just want to play a little more competitively that's all, not necessarily at a higher standard.

I did wonder if that was you on waterworks scorecard(not  sure why there still named waterworks anymore they've been Hallam for atleast a  decade.

Yeah we have a stumper problem at our club, there's actually six of them that could all play 1st team as a stumper. It causes issues galore.

A cheaper option is to recruit a team-mate and hire a lane+bowling machine for an hour and video it.  I did this back in 2012 and instantly saw that I never stood in the same place for consecutive deliveries and was often falling across my stumps rather than getting forward. I rectified this by using my guard to where I place my feet (rather than the bat) and generally now it takes a better ball to get me out.

If you're looking for a coach I may be available, only doing a little at Abbeydale this year
